I took the 6-week online version of this course during CSI. The professor goes by MJ Hill now. Saying this course is an easy A isn’t accurate. This course is a GUARANTEED A. That's because MJ uses a method called Ungrading, which means that as long as everything is handed in on time, you get an A. It’s that simple. The theory is that this is conducive to learning, but I didn’t attend a single lecture nor did I watch them on my own time, therefore I didn't learn much. The quiz questions are copied and pasted from the lecture slides and you can take them as many times as you want. You’re even allowed to collaborate on them. The workload for this class isn’t necessarily light, but you don’t have to do it to get a good grade so that doesn’t matter. MJ is a very nice person and they really care about what they are teaching and they care about their students although they can be a little disorganized at times. I can’t comment on how interesting the material is because, frankly, I didn’t cover any of it. My GPA is thankful though.

This was probably the easiest class I've ever taken, all assignments were basically graded for completion and as long as you turned everything in you got 100 or an A. This is the easiest A class ever and I would highly recommend. The content is also pretty interesting and it's a great GE.

MJ is an awesome professor! I took this class during the 6-week summer period and it was very manageable. This professor uses the "ungrading" method to take stress off of their students, which also makes it very easy to get an A in this class. All you have to do is put some kind of effort into your work and turn it in. It's a very low-stakes class. There is also a 24-hour grace period "no questions asked", so late assignments are always fine. MJ is very understanding if you email them to ask for an extension. There is a "required" textbook for this class, but I think it was only like $10 or something. You can honestly find most of the textbook online for free if you search hard enough. There were small writing assignments and occasional quizzes (which you could retake an indefinite amount of times until you got 100%). There was also a final project; I did a Google Slides presentation but it was freeform and you could do literally whatever you wanted. Overall, this class was very manageable/easy and I would absolutely take it again!

MJ is an amazing professor! I wish they were also teaching in the regular school year (but they're not since they're a PhD candidate and not a full-time professor). MJ is very passionate about sociology, and it shows through their lectures and their answers to students' questions. MJ is also great at paying attention to EVERY student's comments or concerns, both on Campuswire (discussion-platform mostly for asking questions) and during lectures.

As for course assignments, there really aren't any. There were only 3 self-reflections and two projects, but the great news is that they use the ungrading method AND 24-hour grace periods, so as long as you do the assignments relatively on-time, you'll secure the A for sure. These assignments are not too writing-heavy either (with the exception of one project). I'm extremely happy I took this class and gained some interest in sociology thanks to MJ!

MJ is a super nice, amazing professor that really cares about their students and makes them feel welcome and able to ask any questions. The class is not super hard either and the readings, podcasts, and lectures are all really good and super cheap, especially if you're interested in the subject. Literally the only not positive thing I could possibly say about this class is how sometimes communication was a little off with due dates changing (even though they aren't hard deadlines so it doesn't really matter) and our most recent quiz had not been posted on time and was a few days late, but MJ extended the deadline we had to take it by so it's all good.

MJ (Professor Amelia) makes the class feel like less of a chore/duty and more like an opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of topics that may ignite personal interest. MJ emphasizes learning and interactivity rather than assessments or grades. They also strive to be as unbiased which promotes students to be engaged and share opinions.

Definitely recommend taking this class! I took it during CSI for 6 weeks so Ameilia was very understanding given that it was a class of incoming freshmen. The topics are super investing and the workload was really light. There was no midterm or final and the quizzes were all open-note and took the highest grade. Amelia followed the "ungrading" process where everything was based on completion, but at the end of the quarter, we got a letter grade. This class was low-stress, easy, and interesting.

Highly recommend this class. It was very easy over the summer. All assignments were pass fail and that really motivated me to want to do more simply just to learn more and it made the class very interesting and engaging. Professor Hill is also a very kind and understanding teacher.

I am SO glad that I got to take this class with Amelia. The whole class was participation based, she let us have infinite amount of attempts with quizzes, and she was the most understanding professor ever. If you need to complete a GE, take it with Amelia. On the final, she let us do it in whatever format we wanted, and some kids even turned in a Spotify playlist. My friends who took SOC 1 in the fall complain about how hard it is, but this class was such a breeze. The reading is actually pretty interesting, too.
