for an elective, this class should not have been as difficult as it was. the content and material itself were super easy but the way this man approached the exams was completely unreasonable. zero assistance or guidance before the first exam, just to review everything we've done in class thus far (lectures, activities, and textbook readings/notes). keeping in mind that i did all of his tasks and continuously reviewed the material, i still did horrendously on the first exam. questions had multiple answers depending on the way you interpreted it (whether it be from a female or male perspective, depending if they were a younger or older adolescent, etc..)
what angered me the most is that even with my first exam score, i still couldn't get an A in the class since I was waiting to see what I got on the other written assignments (which were never graded until after the drop deadline)
this class should be an easy A with how interesting the material is, but the prof's lack of care for the students' grades and just mixing up and speeding through lecture slides made no sense (and lectures weren't recorded either! making it more difficult to see what he actually meant when he constantly went back on things he said as we frantically typed out notes)
please save yourself i literally lost a year of my life. no... it wasn't that bad but way harder than it should have been like why were we set up for FAILURE. i legit could not pick up my water bottle to take a sip during lecture because of how ridiculously fast this professor was spewing out information. we're expected to know everything he says and everything in the textbook (up to 90 pages per chapter) and then some. i'm genuinely so depressed that i took this class and ruined my perfect gpa. i thought it would be an easy elective or at least one where i'd be able to manage an A and it wasn't. still FUMING. average for the first midterm was literally 39 out of 50. now why are the tests so tough for an elective? btw grading scale was 75% exams, 15% research article reviews (BS assignments that are graded way too harshly), 10% iClicker, 1% Student Evals. i don't like the TA either
overall, not terrible, but not very good either, just average. i wouldn't prefer to take his class again, but i wouldn't necessarily tell people to stay away from it.
i don't think this class was as bad as people in the groupme made it sound, but you definitely have to put in the work. 2 canvas assignments where you have to read a research article and critique each section, and 2 MC exams that are 50 questions each and non-cumulative (so half and half). the exams are based on his lectures (that are a bit boring), the textbook, and extra research articles he assigns, some of which are his own. i think that was the most difficult part tbh, having to study EVERYTHING given to make sure you wouldn't miss anything for the exams. that being said, i didn't think the exams were that hard, but i spent a loooottt of time reading the textbook and taking notes, so that's probably why. the actual content was pretty interesting to me though, since it's about relevant experiences that we all go through one way or another.
