Fall 2025 - I took Professor Martinez during my fall quarter, and oh my god, I am so glad I did. This man is genuinely one of the most engaging, kind, and passionate professors out there. From day one, he made the classroom feel welcoming and exciting, he's got this warm energy that makes you actually want to show up and participate. The class is focused on reading writing, but it's not one of those "just turn in something and pass" deals. The assignments are straightforward and manageable (no insane workloads), but they're designed so well that you actually understand what you're reading and improve how you write about it. You come out feeling like you've genuinely leveled up your critical thinking and expression, not just checked a box. The feedback he gives is thoughtful, constructive, and always encouraging, he really wants you to get better. What stands out most is how understanding and supportive he is. Life happens, and he gets it. He's flexible without being a pushover, and he genuinely cares if you're struggling or just having an off day. I never felt judged, I always felt seen and motivated. If you're looking for an easy but meaningful class with a professor who is nice, super engaging, and actually invests in your growth, take Professor Martinez! He's underrated and deserves all the praise. 10/10, would take again in a heartbeat.

Winter 2025 - I loved this class! Professor Martinez is kind, engaging, and funny. He cares a lot about the success of his students and his class is fair and organized. The theme of the class is loosely about trauma, and all of the assignments were unique and engaging. He has you write about 4 papers throughout the class with other weekly assignments that aren't too difficult. The workload is decently tough, but manageable. Overall I would absolutely recommend taking a class with him.

Winter 2019 - I enrolled in this class because it was one of the only ones left but BEST BEST class and professor you could possibly take for EngComp 3D!! He is so charismatic!! You will want to actually go to class and it is never boring. The readings he assigns are actually interesting too ! I was so scared to take a writing class because i suck at it but this class was actually ENJOYABLE.

Spring 2019 - This review is for both Peter Sellars and Andrew Martinez, since they both taught the class. The class is very easy, and is structured to make you learn more about yourself, rather than to get a certain letter grade. The class helped me reflect on my life and what I wanted in the future. I learned better ways to live my life and this class helped me re-examine my goals. Attendance is mandatory, but it's only once a week for an hour (even though it's listed as 3). Discussion is definitely mandatory though, but I found that discussion was fairly enlightening. Even if you miss class, just let your TA know and they'll let you make things up. Everybody is very understanding and kind, and I definitely enjoyed this class.

Summer 2025 - As a FSP student, I had the amazing opportunity to have Dr. Martinez as a professor! I heavily recommend taking any form of English class with him. As someone who was initially afraid of taking a Writing II course in their first quarter because of insecurity about their writing, I left as a stronger and slightly more confident writer. Dr. Martinez assigns readings (PDFs are provided) that will be discussed in the lecture and relate to the assignments. Overall, the workload consists of 1 weekly essay and 1 response (related to the readings). Dr. Martinez also coordinates peer reviews (2 classmates), therefore, completed essay drafts are expected. As long as you manage your time properly, you will be fine. The final was a 6-7 page I-Search Research paper, where you select a topic that interests you. I'm unsure if this is exclusive to ENG100W, but he does set deadlines at 5 PM for all assignments. In the beginning, I thought that was odd, however, reflecting now, I believe this was to discourage procrastination (which helped in my case). To note, Dr. Martinez is a very sweet and friendly professor, and I regret not attending his office hours. I can not emphasize enough that if you ever have the opportunity to take a class with him, do it.
