The best classics prof i have taken here at UCLA. Honestly, he makes things interesting, and sure depending on the course the reading is boring, but what do you expect? It's classics, and unless you adore you will think some stuff is boring. I am a classics minor and i keep checking to see when he teaches so i can take the class with him. Brad as the TA is really cool and the prof is very understanding and informed. THE BEST!!!!

Professor Dyck is awesome! I totally enjoyed attending his lecture for his Discovering the Romans class--of course, my interest in the material was pretty high. His lecture style is great--always as though he's telling some kind of story. Beware--note taking is beyond crucial in this course, even though it's just a GE. He gives you lots of terms and many reading assignments, but come time the Midterm and the Final, he gives a study guide telling you specifically which terms to study for, as well as the outline of the exam. Of course, your grade is really up to the TA, so I'd recommend going to Office hours for the paper to see what your TA is specifically looking for. But once you do that, and do the reading, you should do pretty good. Overall, a great GE class.

Outstanding lectures, and vivid teaching style. He makes Classical culture come alive like no other professor I've had. He is a walking encyclopedia of the classics--he has more details right off the top of his head than most other professors in the department combined. He requires strict attention to detail in exams--but they are fair and on the material covered, so if you've done your work you'll get your A. Outstanding teacher and scholar: take his classes!
