Overall, I really enjoyed my experience in this class! The professor is very clear and is always super open to answering student questions -- I was never made to feel stupid for speaking up. What I also really liked about his class was that Wilkenheiser made it accessible to all students given COVID-19 by offering hybrid options to everything, and not penalizing students if they were unable to come in-person. He had Zoom options for both lecture and discussion, although I am not sure if this will be continued for future quarters.

He had 4 non-cumulative quizzes in place of midterms and finals. The quizzes were very doable if you understood and reviewed the lecture material, and comparable in difficulty to the practice questions he posted. All the questions were very fair and he even dropped questions that he thought where poorly worded or that the entire class did badly on. They were also all online and open note.

Discussion attendance was mandatory, but I found it helpful (shout out to my TA, Lindsey) since it reviewed the material from the previous week. You also turn in 5 reaction papers total for points, which are basically one-pagers that connect the content of the class to your personal experiences -- very doable, shouldn't take more than 2 hours at most if you're following along with lecture.

The last component of the grade was 1 problem set. Because we moved through material slowly than previous quarters, he ended up making the problem set based on a scientific article. Similar to everything else, it was graded very fairly and very manageable in terms of workload.

Again, I would highly recommend taking Psych 110 with Professor Wilkenheiser if you can. The material may not be the most engaging, but he is very fair, accommodating, clear, and concise in his lectures!

Andrew has to be one of the best column A professors that UCLA has. He's super fair with the exams and listened to students and was willing to give everyone points for exam questions that were confusing/more than one answer. The class is asynchronous which makes it easy to fall behind so try to stay on top of the lectures. The assignments seem tedious but they help sooo much. I failed one of the exams and still ended up with an A- because I got 100% on all the assignments (they really help!) At the end of the quarter, he gave a breakdown of everyones grade in the class and 76% of students got As! No one failed the course. Andrew wants everyone to succeed. It seems like he only teaches this course in the Spring or summer so I recommend waiting to take it with him.

Took him over the summer after taking this course with another professor and let me just say, what a breath of fresh air!! Highly recommend, he knows how to explain the material. Assignments and quizzes weren't too difficult, just review the PPT slides beforehand.

Easy AF!

Considering that 110 is a core course for the psychology major, I expected it to be a difficult class where I struggled a lot. However, Professor Wikenheiser was a delightful professor who always explained the material clearly. And if you didn't understand it the first time, he was happy to review it again. I consistently went to office hours, and this helped significantly for the exams so I would recommend going if the lecture content isn't sticking well.

The class breakdown is as follows: there are 3 exams, weekly quizzes which are graded for completion, weekly reaction writing assignments based on that week's lecture content, 1 problem set, and 1 single-page conditioning proposal. This workload is relatively manageable if you give yourself sufficient time to study for and complete each assignment.

In terms of choosing your core courses, I would definitely recommend 110 over 115. The content is more straightforward and less stressful if you're juggling other challenging classes. Overall, I highly recommend Professor Wikenheiser for 110!

Professor Wikenheiser was so much better than I expected! The class was relatively easy, with recorded lectures, straightforward slides, and optional discussion sections. The tests themselves can be tricky, but they are manageable. I didn't particularly enjoy the problem set, but the conditioning proposal was a fun and creative activity! Take Wikenheiser if you want a relaxed, interesting, and light class!

Professor Wikenheiser is AWESOME and he made a really dense and potentially dull topic very clear, concise, and engaging. The one word I would use to describe this class is: manageable (LOL not as a dis but in the best way possible). Most psych majors have to take this class and this topic can so easily be extremely complicated for no reason. There are just so many things we cover and the experiments are all very complex. It can get very tedious determining the US, CS, CR, UR and differentiating from conditioned approach response, modal action pattern, habituation, sensitization, sensory preconditioning, conditioned taste aversion, differential conditioning (see how they all start sounding the same after a while?). But Professor Wikenheiser made tests online and open note to really emphasis learning/understanding the material rather than simply memorizing it. The tests were not too difficult, but the were also not too easy to the point where they were dumb and disengaging. His slides were great and very detailed with lots of valuable information on them. I also thought that the photos he used were funny ahhahha he is a funny man.

I also attended his office hours a few times and he was super super helpful!!! Would def recommend :))

Basically, everything in this course is credit/no credit EXCEPT for the quizzes. The quizzes make up a huge chunk of your grade and it's incredibly easy to slip up on them. Make sure not to mess up on the quizzes, it's unforgiving to your grade! They are 22 questions each, multiple-choice, and non-cumulative.

The material in this class feels very redundant at times which made things tricky/confusing. Overall, there was a lot of interesting stuff but ultimately this was kind of a "pump and dump" class. I don't see myself retaining much of this information.

Super light course load & pretty cool class! I would recommend taking it with him. :)

I took this class online during Spring 2021, and Prof. Wikenheiser was truly a breath of fresh air after a whole year of online learning. He was super great at explaining difficult (and somewhat boring, at least to me) material and making his lectures engaging despite them being recorded. His exams were multiple choice and T/F exams on CCLE and I thought they were really fair- if you studied, you should do well! His exam review sessions before the exams were also really helpful- pay attention to what he says to focus on/review because he's dropping a lot of hints about what the test questions will be on. He was also really understanding and reasonable with test questions that were confusing in the wording and/or had low performance- he dropped a few questions that we did badly on because he said it must mean that he didn't cover it well enough in class (I've never had any other professors do this before and was genuinely moved T___T). Overall, I thought he was a great professor and would definitely recommend taking the class with him if you have to take this class!

Professor Wikenheiser is literally the only professor I would take 110 with. I tried to take 110 with Fanselow in the fall and I almost fell asleep immediately after watching his lecture videos. Wikenheiser is extremely clear about the material and has a fun personality that makes the class more enjoyable. The concepts are a little abstract, but I think that is the case for any professor teaching this class. Professor Wikenheiser gives lots of examples for every single topic in the course (sometimes making the lecture recordings longer in the process) just to give as many different examples of a topic to ensure that students understand what is going on. No extra credit, 4 homework assignments that were fair if you were up to date on lecture (10 points each, 40 total) and 3 Exams (30 points each, 90 total). The exams were open note and as long as you understood the lecture videos there were NO CURVEBALL QUESTIONS. Some professors test your ability to memorize a slide or even worse, interpret a test question instead of testing understanding. Wikenheiser was amazing and if you knew the material, the exams were a reflection of the lectures. I waited all year to take 110 in my last quarter so it could be with Wikenheiser and it was definitely worth it, one of the best column B professors for Psych.
