Ann is an amazing woman and brings in interesting and engaging speakers. The workload involves 1-2 short reading reflections per week. I would recommend this Fiat Lux to anybody with even the slightest interest in the Middle East!
The class is pretty easy, but you really only get out however much effort you put in. Professor Kerr is very knowledgeable and so sweet but doesn't really push you to have an in-depth understanding of the subjects we cover in class.
Ann is awesome, She is so knowledgeable about the Middle East and shares her stories about her time living there. If you have the opportunity to take a class with her you absolutely should. She also has connections with the Fulbright Scholar program, so she brings in many Middle Eastern people to offer their perspectives on the issues discussed. She is basically the cool grandma I wish I had. I beg you, take a class with her if you have the chance.
This class was incredible. Professor Kerr really is an amazing person to learn from. The class as a whole is super engaging and you are exposed to so many people who are qualified in their field and willing to share their unique countries and experiences. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
This class is awesome, definitely the best class i have ever taken. Professor Kerr has a super interesting life and the scholars she brings to the class all have different life stories and perspectives that worth to listen. Take this class!
Professor Kerr is an amazing professor! She cares so much about the content and her students. She is extremely knowledgeable and has a ton of personal experience based on her time spent in the Middle East. This fiat lux is relatively light on work but very interesting. The workload consisted of one or two weekly readings and a one to two-paged response paper. Class discussions were interesting and engaging, and we also had a few guest speakers. This was a great class to delve into some of the geopolitical and cultural conflicts in the Middle East, without needing a ton of background knowledge. This is the second fiat lux I have taken with Professor Kerr and I would highly recommend her.
