Never take this class with Chung. The course material is taught purely through looking at studies, and this is not the way to teach an undergraduate class. It is rarely engaging, and her grading scheme is unforgiving. I had been looking forward to taking this class for the longest time, but it was a massive disappointment. I did well in the class, but it was generally not worth the time I spent teaching myself the material. Big, big disappointment.
Amazing professor and class! Professor Lau is very helpful and knowledgeable. She makes everything clear. The TA Stephanie is also very helpful, and the review sessions she holds are extremely useful. There’s not much work for the course. The readings can be intensive, but you have no need to read them since the professor will talk about them in the lectures, and that’s all you need for the weekly quizzes. The midterm and final are not so difficult. They are free responses and you can choose your questions from a set of topics. Since the tests are open booked, they are fairly easy if you understand the materials and attend review sessions. There are also extra credits for the course, but I don’t know how they works. There’s also one group project, a presentation, which is also easy to do. Overall, I like the course, and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in Asian American psychology.
