I took this class as a GE and I really liked it. The class covers writing systems from all over the world. There are weekly assignments which are ~10 multiple choice questions, and a "midterm" which is basically just a longer version of the weekly assignments (take home, unlimited time). The final project is a paper where you invent your own writing system and talk about the development, discovery, use, etc. It was really fun! I really recommend this class. I liked Professor Yates too; he was really excited about the content and his lectures were clear and easy to follow.
