Please note this is a review for Physics 5A, not Physics 6A.
Nassar is a very kind man, and he legitimately cares about his students. He also really seems to love physics and sometimes talks about math or physics material unrelated to the course just for fun, like fractals. He tries to make the class entertaining, and his exams are fairly easy. Furthermore, he even uses examples of problems similar to those on the exams during lecture, and he also gives some generous hints before the exams about the material that will be tested. Not only that, but he also curves quite generously. If you are having any trouble with the course or have any questions, try going to his office hours or to the TA office hours. I found them both to be welcoming and helpful. Be sure to read and understand the book, too. Nassar sometimes does not cover everything in class as rigorously as the book, so it is beneficial to read thoroughly for a better understanding of the material. However, the material itself is not very difficult.
Dr. Nassar is and always will be my favorite Physics professor. I haven't seen anyone who's more concerned about their students' learning and more innocent in their approach. He's genuinely a lovely man and a brilliant lecturer. I had an 8am with him, and even though I'm not the kind who'd wake up early, I did so for his class -- just because his lectures were SO MUCH FUN!
This was my second time taking this class, as I had received a C- when I took it for the first time a couple years ago. So happy I decided, against my apprehensions, to retake this class with Dr. Nassar. He really breaks down the material and presents it in ways that are easily understood. The exams are very fair and are similar to practice exams and often include exact problems from HW. He is very approachable and has a good amount of office hours that should definitely be taken advantage of!
Nassar is one of the best professors I've ever had, possibly my favorite. His lectures are really engaging and easy to understand. He's considerate of people who have no background in physics and tries his best to help. I wasn't stressed at all the entire time I was in his class. His workload was efficient and reasonable. I 10/10 would recommend :) . I had no idea that physics was actually fairly simple until I took Nassar.
Nassar is a really nice guy, much like the reviews on here describe him as. A major gripe about him is that he can be really unclear at some points. He's quiet, so good luck if you happen to sit in the back for lecture. To usually get in hearing range, I liked to come at least 10 minutes early to get a good seat. But even then, sometimes he can be confusing in how he explains problems. Some days, he does problems from the homework as an in-class lecture. But then he'll solve for something completely different to get an answer not found in the solutions manual he gives us. Things like that can be hard to follow. Also, while the curve is amazing, don't bet on it too much. That was my mistake for the 2nd midterm. As for TA's, Michael was pretty good, although he tends to spend too much time on any single problem (because he likes using overly-complicated example sets). For Lab, I had Besken. I wouldn't recommend him, as he was often rude and imposing. He'd also leave lab or go on his phone sometimes. Overall, Nassar is a sweet professor, and shows a lot of funny videos to pique your interest. He wants to be inspirational to his students.
CHEAP PHYSICS TEXTBOOKS! You'll need the physics textbook package (3 books) plus mastering physics access code for the entire physics 6 series. All of this is is $180 dollars at the ucla book store (I'm serious, go see for yourself- it's $177.75 plus tax).
I have the brand new entire set of 3 textbooks plus a new unopened mastering physics access code and I'll sell it to you for $80. Seriously, that's 100 dollars off!
If for some reason you want the book with no access code (some teachers don't require them but almost every single physics professor does) I'm selling those for $50.

This class is DEFINITELY way too hyped up.. At least that's how it was this year. I took 6A with Nassar this summer thinking that it would be a good class, even though I had never taken physics in my life until this point. My friends and I were all pretty excited and felt confident we would do well, seeing as how his past midterms and past final seemed fair and with all the good reviews he had on Bruinwalk. The first midterm was really difficult compared to his past ones, so you could tell he was changing things up this year. He even made different versions of the test which he hasn't done before. I got a 89 and a 98 on the first and second midterms, but that was with the curve. Without it, it would have been a D and a C so I guess he was pretty generous with that. The final was crazy though... 20 multiple choice questions and 4 written. Trust me, it took most of the class the whole 3 hours to finish. Most of the stuff on the final we hadn't seen before or didn't do problems like those before. It wasn't similar to our homework at all, and nothing like his past finals. Since the final was worth 45%, I thought I would end up with a C in the class. Fortunately, I got an A- so the curve saved me again. But I still felt so confident that I knew everything pretty well in this class. Nassar does help, but I don't know why he tricked so many people this year.
ALL Physics 6A students! ATTENTION! I will be selling my physics 6 seires books cheaper than you will find at the ucla store or online! In this special offer, I will include a PDF file with answers and explanations of both ODD+EVEN end of chapter problems which will help you prepare for your midterms and finals for this course as well as future physics 6 series courses! Call ********** for more details!
P.S. I took Dr. Nassar's class a couple of summers ago and i assure you, you will not be dissappointed.
Very fair professor! I never took physics in high school, so the first time I was every exposed to the subject was with Nassar. He is extremely fair and does not try to trick you on the exams. Take it with Nassar if you could!
