TAKE THIS CLUSTER!! If you are a non-STEM major, this is the easiest way to satisfy your GEs. Everybody in all the other clusters was jealous of how easy and light our workload was. You need to attend lectures to do the participation on iClicker and for the in-class group activities, but Prof Simons and Moana are amazing, hilarious, and engaging lecturers so it is genuinely a good time. The assignments are mainly extremely easy and there are a lot of them to cushion your grade, so make sure to do all of them. There was a midterm and a final, both with an individual section as well as a group section. Both are very easy and if you pay any attention during lecture you will do well. There is a research paper assignment that is somewhat challenging but they walk you through it and most people end up doing well. If you can, get Elizabeth as your TA because she is the most genuine and caring TA ever!! 10/10 recommend this class.
This class is easy enough, as long as you stay on top of the material, attend your discussion sections and work with your team. Thursday lectures are group activities so make sure you don't miss those. Overall interesting material. Levi was my favorite lecturer, Moana is a little harder to follow.
I loved this cluster throughout the year, but I especially enjoyed the first quarter. Levi was a great instructor and was always available to meet outside of class. Office Hours with all of the professors in this cluster were very helpful, especially with my TA Jess Heckman. She is one of my favorite TA's at UCLA and I am so lucky to have had her the entire school year. This class is very interesting and informative, and would definitely recommend it if you're lucky enough to get a spot!
Love Prof Simons. Very clear slides, good pace of lecture, very straightforward tests that are based 100% on the study guide he gives us, very interesting and short readings, very accessible and will talk to you for hours after class about anything. Really cool guy and great professor. Highly recommend him.
If you want to take a cluster at UCLA take the food cluster, it is very easy and informative. For this specific professor, the lectures were interesting and clear, also the test at the end of his section was exactly like the study guide he gave us. The only part of his section of this cluster that i didnt like was the group work we would have to do alot of.
Also, keep in mind that although he doesn't give us homework, you will get some projects to do in your discussion but they are completely manageable.
Also, if you too AP Envi Sci in high school, you already know 90% of the concepts taught in this class!
SUPER EASY CLASS. This class is at the level of a beginning high school class, maybe even middle school. You don't need to take notes since the prof gives you a study guide with almost all the answers to the exams. The exams are very self explanatory and they're open book and open note. It's super easy to find the answers to the exams in the material. You get 1 hour to do 25 multiple choice questions that end up taking you half hour max. If you want a class where you learn something, I don't really recommend this, but if you're looking for a super easy ge then this is the class for you.
This class was amazing! I cannot recommend this cluster enough. It is definitely the most interesting, has the most manageable workload, and the best professors of the cluster options. You learn so much about food systems in California and beyond, and the rotation of professors are all amazing and funny. The class is structured to provide the perfect transition into college writing, and set me up so well for the rest of freshman year. 10/10!
I love this cluster!! If you are an incoming freshman looking to knock out a lot of science GE's, this is the course for you. The class is fairly easy, extremely relevant in terms of content, and really interesting! Lectures are led by multiple different professors, and Levi was by far my favorite. He was funny, engaging, clearly knew what he was talking about, and was always willing to answer questions. He made our midterms and final very straightforward, so as long as you went to class and took notes you could get an A pretty easily. I would highly recommend this class if you are looking at different Cluster options!
