Yoffe is one of the worst professors I have had in the entirety of my academic career at UCLA. The final had absolutely no relation to anything that we had learned in class, and was punishingly difficult for no other reason than the fact he wanted to bring everyone's grades down since the midterm average was too high. When people asked questions in class, he often could not give a good answer. Avoid this professor if you can.
Honestly I have mixed feelings about this class. Yoffe isn't the best lecturer - he goes on random tangents and sometimes the lectures feel kind of jumbled. I would often lose track of where he was in a derivation because he would write the same step multiple times in different spots. Also, I'm glad that he tries to clarify concepts that he did not have enough information about by sending out follow-up emails. However, these emails just made the material more confusing. The bright side though is that his exams are generally fair, and I feel like he did not test us on any strangely difficult or obscure concepts. The curve for this class was also pretty generous. Overall, I'm not sure I'd fully recommend Yoffe, but he isn't as bad as some people say.
Hey you! Yes, you, you biochemistry/chemistry major. Stop reading the comments and just don't take this class with Yoffe. A third of the class right now are retakers from the previous quarter.
Let that sink in.
