ok, yes his lectures are really amusing and funny-a joke basically. BUT...his books are soooooooooo boring-you can barely read three pages straight. He assigns an incredible amount of reading-which is like impossible to get done and his exams are quite difficult-extremely theory based questions--don't be fooled by the ease of his lectures and slack off!!! READ and understand the difference between all the theories. He tends to integrate similar theoreticians in the multiple choice questions to trick you because they are all so similar. Don't take this class if you just want to fill up your units-take it if you REALLY need a psych elective.

One of the BEST and most entertaining Psych classes I have ever taken! I looked forward to his lectures every single time. Professor Weiner is a true expert in this field and he teaches in an insightful, engaging, and often humorous way. His experiments in class always keep you interested and helps you learn the concepts a lot better too. The books ARE sometimes hard to understand, but you will find that his lectures definitely help. And you do have to work hard for that A. TAKE THIS CLASS!

Mr. Merlin is very funny. He keeps the class interesting and keeps you awake. The material is very interesting as well despite what ppl have said about the books. DO go to all the lectures because some of the test questions come out of lectures (I think it was something like 80% from book, 20% from lecture). Human Motivation is by far the best psych class I've taken because it actually made sense. I think that the material I've learned in this class will stay with me for a long time as well, and the Prof. had every thing to do with it. Also, TA Naomi was the Bomb! She helped me so much that I don't think I could have gotten my B+ w/o her. It helps that she's kinda cute too. Take Prof. Weiner's class, you won't regret it.

Dr. Weiner is definitely one of the best professors i've had here in my 4 yrs at UCLA! He reminds me a lot of the pixar man playing chess against himself :D Human motivation was a pretty interesting class, one of my favorites. His lectures are very clear and he conveys the material in a fun way, giving plenty of examples, including worksheets to fill out to better understand the topics. He always makes sure that everyone understands before moving on, which is really cool- shows that he cares about student learning. As long as you know the main concepts and can connect the theorists with their theories and the distinctions, you'll be fine. The tests are very fair and are pretty easy if you have a good grasp of the main concepts and can apply them. He's a very entertaining lecturer. i highly recommend him!

Dr. Weiner = Merlin...I completely agree with the review below! He is so witty. He has a very dry sense of humor, which is quite refreshing. The class is tough, though. You really need to know the theories, theorists and the concepts of the theories. Know how each theory is related, whose theory it is and the terms affiliated with each theory. Dr. Weiner is defintely an expert in his field. The class is very interesting and the material is fun. The readings, though, I found to be kind of tough--but he does explain them in class. Ask questions...He gets lonely up there. ;)(You'll know what I mean if you take the class). The one drawback: he sometimes will tease his students, so sometimes I was kind of afraid to ask, questions, but he really is funny. Doesn't take himself too seriously and isn't pretentious at all. Highly recommended.

By the way, Wisconsin says really random things. It got really annoying!

very witty. kind of reminds you of Merlin in a way. =p His lectures are very entertaining and worth your time. He always does experiments during class to help you grasp the concept. His textbooks are also witty and easy to read. There are some concepts that might be confusing in the text, but those always end up not being on the test, since the professor himself gets confused. =p You don't even have to read the book over and over like for some other classes. Tests are straight from the lectures and text, none of the tricky stuff. His grading is more than fair, so you can actually enjoy learning instead of getting all hopped up about grades. As long as you go to his lectures and read, you'll do fine. ^_^

Dr. Weiner is a very witty individual. He is clear in his instruction of the material, while also adding humor to each lecture. There was never really a dull moment in his class and the lectures went flying by. He gives great demonstrations to solidify the points he is trying to get across. The two books required for this class are both written by him. He assigned hundreds of pages of reading for the whole course (which did tend to get pretty dense at times), but his tests are more than fair and straightforward. He asks questions right out of the material from lectures, while also sprinkling in some material only covered in the books. However, he refrains from asking knit-picky questions about oscure material in the texts. I didn't even go to any review sessions (but heard they were very helpful!) and still did EXTREMELY well in his class. The TA (Emily Impett) is great and answers any and all questions students have before the exams on the discussion board. Overall, I had a great experience by taking this class. I highly recommend it.

I can honestly say that he's the best professor I've had so far at UCLA. I actually looked forward to going to class! Beginning of each lecture, he would go over any questions or concerns that students might have had from the previous lecture(s). Highly Recommended.

This is not an easy class, but it doesn't have to be a hard class if you just put in some effort. It's really interesting and it's worth taking just for the professor. Dr. Weiner is just amazing. He is sooo nice, sooo funny and sooo caring. Class goes by so quickly. Seriously, I don't think I've ever had to check my watch in that class - b4 i know it it's over. And sometimes i'm actually disapointed. it's a little annoying, though, b/c a lot of pple ask really dumb questions and he answers them all, so not much is covered in each class. But even so, definetly go to lecture b/c it makes the reading so much less painful and so much more understandable.

this is one of the few courses where the material just made sense to me. and why wouldn't it? it's human phenomena, things that we can observe in our daily lives. so for this class, focus on the theories that have been used to explain these phenomenas!

prof. weiner is a good lecturer-- he really is modest, funny, and just entertaining. the reading may seem a little abstract and complicated at first... so definitely go to class because lectures and the simple in-class experiments really help clear up any confusion.

however, this isn't an easy class. the midterm wasn't too bad, but the final was hard! like other reviewers have said, know the concepts (forget memorizing) because the tests are worded in ways where you have to apply them into different situations. also, know the theories! know the unique characteristics, as well as the similarities between them... well, enjoy the class. i did. :)
