I really loved Professor Johnsen and this class! The books we read were of great variety and mainly enjoyable. Same thing with assignments, there were 2 literary analysis papers and other projects like a group drama adaptation project, and a creative writing assignment. Professor Johnsen is very funny and friendly and encourages lively, interesting discussion and lets the discussions be very student-driven. You just have to participate, and she is a fair grader and gives very helpful feedback! Highly recommend this class

Took English 4W with Bethany in Spring 2020 (online due to COVID-19). I'm a math major and I despise writing but Bethany definitely made it loads of fun. Lectures were half slides describing topics relating to readings and half discussions among the students concerning the readings. Those discussions were quite engaging as Bethany gave us free reign to discuss all sorts of topics. The assignments and projects were time-consuming but not onerous. Essays were graded fairly and Bethany gave ample feedback. She's also an affable person and pretty down-to-earth! Would definitely recommend taking a class with her.
