Definitely take this course, it's enjoyable, and the workload was my saving grace in this class. Most of us got A's and the professor is incredibly personable and works with her students, not against them.
Although I felt like this class was easy, the quizzes can be slightly challenging for two reasons -- although its open book you have to answer those questions quick. I got an A on the midterm but I literally had like 2 minutes to spare to double-check answers.
ALSO for the love of god, pay attention to the movies she shows in class. She asked like 6 questions about one of the films we viewed and I was not expecting that. Other than that, this class is a breeze and widens your perspective on parenting.
You should definitely take this class with Dr.Goff, this is easily one of my favorite classes at UCLA. The way everything is structured is great ! Your class may be different if taken during fall quarter as I took it in the summer. The breakdown for the summer class was 3 Written Exercises which have a specified prompt for the assignment related to the content of the class, we watch several films questions are asked in the exam, 2 exams, extra credit SONA. I would definitely take again, great class for upper division psychology elective.
A wonderful class with a wonderful professor that is understanding and cares about the mental well-being of their students. Lectures were often clear, and questions were always welcomed. Exams are short answers. Would not miss an opportunity to take it again.
Oh. my. god.
idk what to say but TAKE THIS CLASS if you can. i would take it over and over again if I could because god is it great. she is so vulnerable and honest with us and treats us like humans beings with so much respect for our thoughts -- i mean that IS what a parent does after all wink wink.
4 assignments, 3 exams. all so easy and fun. i genuinely looked forward to her exams because I wanted to see how much I absorbed and got an A on each one. all assignments are easy and ask you to reflect on your own life or your mother.
she speaks of her own difficulties and truths with being a mom and expands so much on concepts of attachment, parenting styles, best parenting techniques, influences bad or good parenting. documentaries, short videos. just so engaging. love her so much. taking her again next quarter for trauma.
also there is a textbook but I only used once and found the lecture material sufficed for exams.
Professor Goff is HANDS DOWN the best professor I've met at UCLA. She's super friendly, warm, approachable, and most importantly very knowledgeable about the material she covers. Her exams were straight forward, questions taken straight from the lecture/videos watched in class, and she is just an absolute treasure. The assignments for this class were also low stress, and meant to be reflective of our own lives rather than solely focused on the concepts from the material alone. I'm already enrolled to take her again for other classes she's teaching these next upcoming semesters, because I loved her that much. If you have the choice, ALWAYS go with Goff!! :)
2 tests and 4 writing assignments, the final is not cumulative but definitely don't underestimate how easy it is because I did and ended up scoring pretty low on the final but because I scored almost full points on everything else, I still pulled an A in the class. The class is pretty interesting and you watch a lot of interesting films as a part of the syllabus. As always, Professor Goff is just a delight to have.
This was the second class I've taken with Professor Goff, and it was once again incredible! The content is super interesting, and there is nothing very difficult to grasp. I'm definitely very overwhelmed about the idea of parenting after taking this class, but I am also way more informed about it. Even though this was my *fourth* quarter in online school, I was able to be engaged in the class just because there's so much cool stuff you learn about. There was always new stuff I learned in class that I would share with my friends and roommates. Workload-wise this is a much easier class than some others at UCLA. Mainly all you need to do is go to lecture. There's like 4 (short) written assignments you need to complete throughout the quarter, but those aren't bad at all. Then, there's the Midterm and Final, which had some tricky questions, but they were open-note so it was entirely fine. I would definitely recommend taking this class with Professor Goff if you have any interest in being a parent one day or just learning about parenting!
Professor Goff is so incredible, she really brought this class to life (especially important during times of online learning). The class was straightforward, her lectures were clear and there was no gap between the information taught in lecture and what was expected of you on the exams. Some relatively short writing assignments to deepen your knowledge and reflection on the material that were pretty easy. Overall, a great course that I would recommend to anyone interested in the content material
This is the third class I've had with Professor Goff, but she proves herself through and through to be an amazing lecturer and an absolute treat!! Her lectures are always so engaging and she knows how to communicate her material in a manner that is easy to digest. She makes her material relatable and her personal anecdotes were always relevant and entertaining. This class was super relatable, practical and eye opening to the world of parenting and I got so so much out of it. More than anything though, Professor Goff just genuinely cares for her students and has a big heart for teaching that was easily observable by anyone in class. I highly recommend those who take the class to take advantage of office hours because Professor Goff is very approachable and knowledgeable in the field. At one point, we got behind in lectures because we had so many questions because the material was so interesting, but Professor Goff was generous enough to offer to record extra (optional) lectures on topics we may have been interested in yet unable to hit in class. Man, that just shows where her heart and dedication is for education and her students...seriously so admirable.
In terms of material and workload, this class is extremely manageable. Honestly, the bare minimum to succeeding in this class is simply listening to all the lectures and doing the 4 written assignments (which were all very straight forward and often asked for our own thoughts). Exams were all multiple-choice and fair. I was never caught off-guard by any of the questions or material that showed up on the exams.
JUST DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and take any class offered by Goff if you can! Reviews won't do her justice.
