NOTE: I selected a random class as the class I took with these teacher wasn't listed.
Boris is an interesting teacher and many students like him. However, I was personally underwhelmed by my experiences as his student.
If you want an easy A, occasionally interesting lectures, vague paper requirements with overwhelmingly generous grades, then this class might be for you. The fact that he grades ridiculously easy is a large part of why students like his classes.
But if you're serious about learning literature and having interesting and thought-provoking discussions on the subjects, look elsewhere.
I also chose a random class for this review, but I've taken 3 classes with Boris and I'd like to say that he is amazing.
He might be a "generous" grader but that makes us enjoy his class so much more and not stress about it. taking his class is like a breath of fresh air. The discussions held in class are very interesting and he's definitely knowledgeable.
The fact that he doesn't have set guidelines for papers and is more laid back about the triviality of grades made me love him so much more. He definitely cares about his students and is always open to office hours about ANYTHING. i've went to his office hours a few times and he has always been so helpful and genuine.
TAKE HIM, I wish more professors were like Boris.
I've taken numerous courses with Boris, and believe me, he is one of the most wonderful, kind and caring professors on this campus. He will stand by your side no matter what, and help you succeed in his classes throughout any difficulties you may be facing in life. Regardless of whether or not you are in the Slavic department, take his courses when offered. Take them as electives, take them as extra upper division units, take them for fun... but take them for sure, because you will learn as much as you are willing and able to, and you will be entertained.
Boris is the best person ever.
