This class was weird. I took French 4 and did really well, but French 5 kicked my behind. I honestly don't know what was so hard about it. I always got middle B's on the tests, but she's a really fair grader so who knows. Maybe the reason why this class was so hard for me compared to French 4 was that I didn't like going. The class discussions that we would attempt to have were like pulling teeth. no one wanted to participate because of her reactions to anything that was wrong. she scowls when you answer wrong or will just say "non!" sometimes i didn't even understand what she was asking, so it took me a second but by then we had already moved on. participation is really hard--my class was big, so maybe that was part of the issue. but i found myself struggling to participate even once a class period and occasionally i wouldn't want to say anything because I didn't know if it was one hundred percent right and I didn't want to be humilated. I also wish that more class time had been spent on major concepts that were tested instead of listening to stupid things like french "western" songs (you'd know what i mean if you took the class). Some material was presented really quickly and then it ended up being a major part of the tests. The compositions were graded fairly. oh, and for as scary as she is in class, she's pretty nice in office hours, so at least go in so that she knows that you care/are trying.

She is young and fun. I felt very comfortable speaking in class, even if I wasn't totally sure how to say something. My writing got significantly better and I really learned a lot in the class. I actually enjoyed French class. Highly recommended.
