I took Cluce for hist146B and she was one of my most favorite professors at UCLA. I learned soooo much in this class, we really dove into labor unions which beforehand I thought of as a boring topic but boy was I wrong! Cluce uses slides with no text and just pictures, indicative of a good lecturer. On the other hand, because of no text, I suggest taking good notes. She is so engaging and entertaining, hopefully she will start podcasting her classes. Her course was alot of work but worth it: 2 midterms, final paper, and 2 weekly responses to primary readings you chose (super easy just post on discussion board). The midterms relied heavy on lectures but the final paper was not so bad. You craft an argument based on a topic of your choosing and use material learned from course. The readings were fun and varied widely from week to week, which kept things interesting but not as necessary for studying as was the overall timeline of course events. Overall, Cluce is a sincere professor, does not have a big ego like others, is funny, and helpful. I went to her office hours once and she was welcoming and willing to talk and listen about subjects other then class details, she is a good mentor and her class is not hard if you pay attention to lecture!

Luce is a dedicated professor eager to meet and help students at any time. She takes time out of her schedule outside office hours to prep and help with the assignments to make sure the students understand what is being asked of them.

I would take any class the professor teaches.

I took Professor Luce for History 146B but she’s amazing! Her lectures are always interesting and it’s obvious she’s passionate about what she’s teaching. Her assignments and tests are tough, but fair. I’d take any class she’s teaching!
