This class is pretty doable if you study the slides and the studies talked by her well. She gives four exams, one is optional. I did ok for the first exam, but badly for my second exam. I got full marks for my 3rd and the final exam. So that's an A+ overall However, try to do your best for the first three, because the final is cumulative. You MUST do the reading to get As because the exams test on the studies talked in the textbook. The reading is about 40 pages per week, so you want to do them early. I have the textbook and all study notes you will need, so you can just look for the experiment I mentioned in my notes, instead of reading the textbook, which will make your life so much easier. Email me at ************* if you need.
This class is fairly easy if you do all the reading on time. If you procrastinate on the readings, then you will fall behind fast and then things will become stressful lol. Assignments are graded based on completion and not correctness. Lowest assignment and exam score are dropped, therefore, you can miss 1 exam or 1 assignment without any consequences. However, if you miss 1 exam or score bad, then you will need to take the optional final that is cumulative. You can rent the book for cheap on Amazon. I earned an A in the course and I still have all of my thorough notes and exam reviews for the lectures, if interested in them, please text me at **********
Professor Sandhofer was so sweet and kind and made this class so much fun. Her tests are not too hard if you study her slides and read the textbook and research articles. Make sure to know all the major theories and different research studies. The class is made up of 3 noncumulative exams and one optional cumulative final, and 10 easy online assignments that help prepare you for the exams. The assignments are graded on completion, not correctness. Also, if Andrew is the TA, make sure to attend his exam reviews, they were so helpful!!! Selling the textbook which is needed to do well in the class, text me at **********
Test aren't challenging if you pay attention in class, the book helps because on tests there is usually one or two questions related to a study mentioned in the textbook but it is a lot of reading. I didn't read the textbook and I ended with an A but that was probably because I took a lot of notes and paid attention to everything she said. Also my TA's review sessions were very helpful for the tests so hopefully you get a good TA. Overall the material is not that difficult to understand and you watch a lot of cute baby videos in class.
I haven't received my final grade yet, but without the final I have a B. With the final, possibly an A- or B+, just to give you some perspective as to where I am in the class.
I really enjoyed this class! I highly recommend it to anyone; Professor Sandhofer is very clear, and does her best to help you understand the information. The lectures are also podcasted, she always posts the slides in advance, and provides quizzes to test your learning (which you can attempt multiple times). I recommend you create flash cards and listen to the podcasts more than once.
Grading is on a point scale, but essentially exams are worth 85% and assignments are worth 15%. There are three exams and an optional final. Each exam has 33 questions, each worth 3 points and then 1 point is added just for putting your name on it correctly. Each assignment is worth 5 points. They are typically about the article you were suppose to read, and they aren't graded harshly. Just demonstrate that you read it, and it's an easy 5 points. There are 11 assignments, and 1 is dropped (so 10). It equates to an easy 50 points tbh.
She creates her exams where you can rely purely on the lecture/article material to get a B, but if you want an A, you're gonna have to read or guess really lucky. Since there are 33 questions, about 3-4 will be from the book. So essentially, if you study the lecture really well, you are guaranteed an 88% on each exam.
I tried reading the book but it's really dry, and each exam has about 100-130 pages of associated reading. A lot of the book goes over basics of cognitive science before it gets into the developmental stuff. For only 4 potential questions, I rather spend my time studying the lecture very closely. She tests mostly on the studies she mentions in class. The exams aren't tricky with the "A and B", "A, B, and C" answers, but it's mor eof a "you know it or you don't".
Amazing professor and truly knows a lot about her field. She is so sweet and nice and although there are 3 exams and an optional final, they are not too challenging if you review her slides and read the book. She makes the topics a lot more interesting by incorporating videos and demonstrations. Definitely recommend this class as column B or elective!
The class is pretty do-able as long as you study all the lecture slides. She breaks each test into powerpoint slides so that's really convenient. The professor is very kind and always willing to help. After an exam I would recommend going to office hours to see what you missed and how to do well on the other exam, she gives you tips!
There are 3 midterms and 1 optional final! I have all my notes, and study guides/review sessions needed to do well in the class. I also have all my quizlet flaschcards online which I can give you access to while studying. I got an A in the class and as long as you know the powerpoints really well and skim the book experiments you'll do good!

Sandhofer is great. She's super super sweet, and she's extremely organized. Posts slides, covers slides in detail, and tests are mostly fair (as in if you go through the slides carefully and skim the textbook you should be fine). One of the easier psych classes I've taken. I'd definitely recommend this as a Column B class
She's a very sweet person. I recommend going to her office hours.
Her test are extremely easy and do-able as long as you read and go over the slides. There are 3 midterms and 1 OPTIONAL final which is cumulative. There are a lot of readings, but they're not extremely difficult you just need the gist of what happened.
I'm selling my copy of the book. It's a scanned version of the PDF but every other page is upside down. I took notes next to each paragraph, so reading my notes SHOULD be sufficient for every paragraph/page.
I got an A+ in the class.
