Professor Sandhofer is great. She's a really nice and caring person overall, and the material she goes over is very easy to grasp. She unfortunately isn't the best at conveying the overall concepts, but as long as you take adequate notes in lecture, you should be able to understand everything. However, one thing that is absolutely essential to getting an A is reading the book and taking notes. About 1/4 of each exam consisted of questions directly relating to studies and concepts from the textbook that she didn't go over in lecture. This was incredibly annoying as the amount of reading assigned is quite a bit(~100-120 pages per midterm), and is quite possibly one of the longest and most boring books I have ever read. Sadly, reading the book and taking notes on it is the only way to actually get an A in the class. Fortunately if you do read the book the tests are basically a joke.

I would recommend her class! Lectures are podcast & she drops the lowest of four exams, final included.

She is wonderful. Absolute gem of a professor and person. The class was extremely interesting - I never liked developmental psych until I took her class. We watched these amazing clips of studies with little kids that were just cute and fun and also extremely helpful when it came time for remembering information for tests. It's a lot easier to recall an adorable video clip than a bunch of facts. I would recommend her a million times over - really fun class, really great professor.

I will try to be as impartial as I can in this review. I am a recent transfer student so I hope I can help some transfers when making a decision on which class to take. I thought that Pr. Sandhofer was a very nice person. I always went to her office hours for help. I thought the class was pretty interesting. Yes, she does use powerpoint and it can get boring. You should print out the class lecture notes before coming to class; its helpful to write down whatever she says next to each slide on the note page. From my understanding, a lot of the psychology majors got As in this class. I am not a psych major so this class was a challenge for me. I mainly took it because all the other classes were full; I ended up with a B+. I agree with the comment below me that says that if you go to class and study the lecture notes, you can pretty much get a B in the class. The challenge is the way the test is set up. She is very picky about certain things mentioned in the book, which is impossible to know since its a lot and its normally not discussed in class. If you decide to take this class, all i can say is happy hunting.

The class itself isn't too hard. The material is pretty understandable if you read. She isn't that great of a professor though. I'm sure she knows what she's talking about, but she does a pretty crappy job at getting that across.
