What a great class! The coolest subject matter and very interesting lectures. Professor Stiekman cares about her students, and has so much knowledge and experience to share with them! The tests are of moderate difficulty and there is a hypothetical grant proposal project due at the end of the quarter, so expect a little work, but it is never excessive. This is a super dope class for any physical geography students or EEB people.
Professor Stiekman is a great professor who cares about the learning of her students a lot. This class is actually cross-listed with the EEB department as a note (EEB 131). While there is a lot of material gone over the class, Stiekman was very fair with grading scale and slides were very easy to follow. The grade breakdown:
Final Paper (30%) - You had to construct a 4-5 page research paper on the topic of your choice. Grading was pretty fair and I think if you followed the rubric and completed the requirements, you probably did well on the paper.
Midterm (30%)- Honestly, pretty decent overall mainly multiple choice. You were expected to know a lot of content but the exam questions were to the point and not tricky.
Final (30%)- Same deal with the midterm. Questions were to the point and no tricks but definitely required some memorization skills. Average was over 90% I believe as a reference point!
Attendance/ Participation(10%): I could be wrong but for us I think there was only one grade for this category. During Week 9, we had to attend a botanical garden tour which was nice and informative. You got points if you submitted something you found interesting.
Overall, this is my second class with Professor Stiekman and I am have been happy with both times I have taken her. She is very nice and cares for her students success. Exams are very fair and as long as you put in some work you will be fine!
