TAKE BAUER. BEST CHEM PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. Seriously, she's so concerned about student learning and her lectures are well organized & easy to understand. Go to her office hours as much as you can, because she's really helpful & friendly. She has a good sense of humor and she does a lot of demos which keep the class interesting. Her tests are pretty fair with a generous curve.
TAKE BAUER! Professor Bauer is an extremely caring and intelligent person. She gets genuinely excited about Chemistry during class, which helps a lot. She also tries to do relevant demonstrations as much as possible, which is fantastic. Her tests are reasonable and she provides lots of help on the VOH website. She answers a ton of questions on VOH, posts additional notes weekly, and quickly posts practice tests and study guides. She is also very available during office hours. I enjoyed her class very much and you should definitely try to enroll in her course if given a choice.
Though I haven't received my grade yet, she has told us that she doesn't intend her class to be a "weeder" class and she intends to give out reasonably high grades.
Effective lectures and gives a lot of partial credit for exams, so just make sure you know the key concepts. She is willing to help if anyone has any problems.
Note: this review is coming from someone who hates chemistry
I took her W10 and she was probably my favorite teacher from freshman year. Her homework was relatively fair and she gave extra credit for sig figs and units which was nice. Her midterms were pretty hard but she gave a lot of partial credit and averages were in the 70s/100. Her final was much easier but the average wasn't much higher, around 150/200. Her lectures were actually helpful (believe it or not, a lecture that is worth going to) and the demos were interesting for the most part. She speaks perfect english which is definitely a rarity at UCLA so that was a nice change of pace. Basically take Bauer if you can, she's awesome.
Super nice. Always willing to meet with you outside of her office hours. Her midterms were kind of awful, but in the end it didn't matter because her curve is super generous. I hated chem, but I managed to get out with a B+ so take her if you can get in and go to lecture because her demos are interesting.
