Third year at UCLA and Professor Peña is by far one of the sweetest and smartest faculty. She has really interesting lectures with little to no homework- you're mainly graded on your participation and engagement in class. She has a really fascinating backstory and is crazy brilliant, but she's really humble about her success and journey throughout her life. I signed up to take another class with her for Winter quarter so I would definitely recommend taking her again.
The professor is very kind and seems like a great person. However, I felt like I did not get much out of the class. There are no lectures, we tend to have weekly guest speakers and weekly group song shares. That's about It. You don't even have to study for the class or even show up to the zoom meeting to get an A. The assignments are very simple, you read some articles and cite them when answering prompts. There is a 5 page final though which is again fairly simple.
