I am not really a chem person, and I definitely was not that optimistic about how 14C was going to go for me. However, Dr. Lam is amazing. He definitely makes himself available to his students and has reviews before exams. He's such a nice man, and his lectures are easy to follow. His midterms were okay (I got a 77.5 on one and a 79 on the other) but his final was absolutely ridiculous. I think I just ended up writing down nonsense for one question because I had literally no idea what the question was asking me. This is not a class to slack in at all, because this shit is hard. I ended up with a B+ in the class, which I guess is all I could have hoped for. Also, my TA was Natalie James and she was wonderful! She's such an adorable person who also happens to be stellar at teaching you organic chemistry.

Oh, Prof. Lam! I was pretty devastated after taking my first midterm (knew nothing and the class average was in the high 20s-low 30s) but he held a workshop for us to go over the midterm and the second midterm was much more doable. He goes at a good pace and is very clear in his teaching style. I'll echo another reviewer in saying he is the best o-chem professor I've had.

Professor Lam is an incredibly intelligent person. He is well educated in chemistry and you can learn A LOT from him. He is a difficult professor. OChem is really, really hard. You MUST study hard. But at least he is organized, actually cares about his students, and gives practice tests and review sessions prior to each exam. I recommend going to office hours as much as possible because you might hear something that will help you understand better or give you a heads up about what is really important to focus on. We were lucky to have Dr. Lam for both 30B and 30C.
