This professor is not a good lecturer or professor overall. Her "lectures" consisted of extremely short and vague power points that often included information that was unrelated to the subject, youtube videos of interviews to costume designers, and asking if the students had any questions or if we wanted to present our homework assignments (even though we had a whole lab class for that since this class was supposed to be a LECTURE) because we still had over 20 minutes left of class that she had not planned for and she didn't have any youtube videos left. She also doesn't really care for her students, her homework assignments were confusing, and her quizzes felt like they are made for you to fail. For assignments, she did not provide clear guidelines and then gave you either an 88 if you missed one detail, or a 0 if you missed two, but you had to figure out what the detail was yourself. Finally, she had a disagreement with her students and spent three full class periods in proving herself right instead of attempting to understand the students' point of view. Bad bad bad. Rant over.

Ucla made a mistake by hiring her to teach. Not only is she an awful teacher, but she is an awful person. The 10 weeks first started with her making a very controversial and biased statement that had to do with race. It was showing characteristics of what some may call a coon. The ENTIRE class made it known that we were hurt, made uncomfortable, and deeply affected by this statement and we simply asked for an apology. Lets just say, that never came, but instead, about 3-5 classes were wasted due to her entertaining the subject and enjoying seeing her students hurt by her initial statement. The entire class sent a complaint to to the TFT board and Dominic Taylor, in the end, nothing was done. Going into when the course officially got started we had wasted about 3 weeks. It was about week 4 when we actually knew what we were doing in the class. But by that time, hardly anyone in the class would turn their camera on due to the mood she herself set by showing she clearly doesn’t give a crap about her students. And it was literally week 10 when we finally learned something in her class. Her lectures aren’t lectures. She didn’t even have the assignments or what we would be learning on the syllabus so no one could really figure out what we had learned. Every assignment she gave us had to be fixed because of poor work. She didn’t think her assignments through, her directions were ALWAYS unclear on each assignment. She failed over half the class on one of the first assignments because of her poor and unclear instructions, yet blamed us. Giving ONLY either 0%, 88%. Or 100%. After that unneeded stress, the class wouldn’t leave the zooms until we had asked her everything we needed to know about the next assignments so she wouldn’t fail us. She would then proceed to be upset and annoyed at the fact that we had questions. So many people changed the class to pass/no pass. Even the TA told us in discussion that she had no clue why some students received the grade they did and that she couldn’t understand Dana’s way for grading. Her grading is unfair. Each week, often at the last minute, she would make huge changes to each of the assignments because the class noticed mistakes or unclear instructions she failed to catch. Which only made things even more confusing. There were so many in ALL the assignments. She would get very disruptive phone calls EACH class. She will tell you to follow her samples given, and then yell at you for doing ‘something wrong’ when you literally did it like hers. On the last day of class, she told us in class that she forgot to tell us about an assignment that was a part of our final which caused extra unneeded stress. Her teaching isn’t clear or well, her PowerPoints lead to no where, they make no sense. She assigned a graded quiz in the first couple of weeks and LITERALLY everything on that quiz had no correlation to what she showed or ‘taught’ us in class. This professor SHOULD NOT be teaching at UCLA or at all. DO NOT take this class! You will not learn anything, you will not enjoy it. You will only be left stressed and emotionally affected/attacked. UCLA please take the time to read these reviews and take action. This cannot happen again.
