I don't know if it was because it was his first time teaching the class, but I have never had a professor as nice and accommodating to students' needs as Professor Mckeown. He was veryyyyy lenient on us (gave us formula sheets with all necessary equations during tests, huge curve on midterms and also allowed us to replace a midterm grade with the final grade if it was better), and gave full credit for homework as long as it was attempted. Quizzes were basically a random question from the homework that he chose, and tests were also heavily based on the homework and/or textbook questions covered in his slides. The lectures themselves were a little questionable (mostly consisted of the professor reading off screenshots of the textbook being pasted onto the slides) but were pretty accurate in terms of what the professor put on the exams + attendance was not mandatory.
i absolutely love this guy. amazing dude who actually listens to his students. if you get the opportunity definitely take physics with him. it would have been absolutely unbearable with any other prof.
McKeown is the best professor I've ever had. Overall he is just a funny guy. Very down to Earth, and wants to make physics accessible to everyone. Exams are probably the most fair I have had yet. He genuinely wants to help students learn and has the most office hrs out of any prof I have had yet. If nobody scores 100% on the exam, he will curve. 10/10 would take again, and honestly will miss seeing this guy pull up to lecture.
Professor McKeown is passionate about teaching and making physics entertaining for everyone. Hw is weekly MasteringPhysics and graded on effort, but this is his first quarter teaching so his grading policy may change in the future. Quizzes were based directly off the homework, and exam questions were also similar. Slides are used in lecture and use the textbook to explain concepts. Overall engaging and fun professor to have. 10/10.
Mckeown is one of the few professors who seem to genuinely care. He really enjoys what he does, understands how difficult physics is for a lot of people and genuinely wants you to succeed. The quizzes are pulled straight from the homework and exams are mostly reasonable, although sometimes too long with some vague wording for questions (though he recognizes this and accommodates different answers or curves). He’s not perfect (his lectures/slides aren’t always the clearest or most engaging) but otherwise an awesome professor. Highly recommend taking him and going to his office hours whenever you can.
Overall a very nice guy that's also very accommodating for any issues that may come up. The exam content was basically just topics from the homework, but some of the questions were extremely poorly written, and the exams overall had way too many questions (15 questions on a midterm?). There are also 4 quizzes during the quarter in addition to the 2 midterms, but the quizzes are very short (~10 minutes) and very easy. Supposedly after this quarter when he gets stuff figured out with CAE the quizzes will be unannounced so you have to attend lecture. This was his first quarter teaching here though, so hopefully things will change for the better.
