I only took him because the only other option was Felker, but overall I did not like him very much. Lectures were almost useless since nobody could understand him, but he definitely tried to answer questions that people had, regardless of whether his explanations actually helped or confused people even more. Try to avoid this professor if you can. If not, good luck.

Professor Neuhauser truly is a nice man and is willing to help his students. However, I believe he lacks the ability to teach students the subjects necessary for a complete understanding of chemistry. I didn't get much out of his lectures and his exams were TOUGH. I believe the average on the first midterm was 63%.I would not recommend this professor, but if you're stuck with him, some hard work should get you through.

Worst Professor I've had so far (and I took Baugh for 20A). He is extremely ineffective during lecture and focuses way too heavily on derivations. Lecture was a waste of my time when I went.

That said, his tests aren't too hard if you memorize his notes and study old tests. I found discussion to be very helpful since my TA went over problems most of the period.

I did not learn much from this class, but managed to get an A-. Definitely try to avoid this professor.

Neuhauser isn't a very hard professor if you put the time and effort in to do well. I never went to class, went to a couple of discussions a week because they really helped me learn, and took notes off his lecture notes and got an A. My advice to do well in the class is
-memorize the lecture notes, all of them! including derivations because there is usually 1 or 2 of them per test.
-do the book hw problems becuase they really help you practice the material instead of just memorize it
-form a study group, because working with other people really helped me develop a better understanding material of the material.
Overall, Neuhauser's a pretty easy professor because his tests are predictable.

He's Okay. The lectures are not that great, but it is always good to go to them to reinforce your understanding of the material. His lecture notes are your BEST FRIEND. Pretty much everything he tests you on (derivations and problems) are in them, make sure to go through all the derivations on his notes and understand them because they are easy points.

This guy knows his stuff, and is improving, though very slightly. However, he stresses too much on thermodynamics, which is really great... if you are planning to major in that field. Furthermore, Neuhauser says that deriving is very important in the class, yet there are always problems on the tests that will require you to remember how to actually apply it when you've been drilling in your head how to derive the equations. The hard part about this class is Neuhauser asks you to do something, yet does another thing on his tests, so just watch out. He's pretty detailed in thermodynamics, but he's not clear for the rest.

DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS! He is the terrible Chem professor I've ever met. If you can avoid him Then Try your best, if not, Don't expect any thing from this class. You need to derive everything on his notes because he never provides formula sheets on the exams, his exam is crazy and ridiculous! Bring cheat sheet !!!

Tests are really hard if you have trouble MEMORIZING. Every test requires you to RE-WRITE proofs on the test. After scoring pretty well on the first midterm, I took the second/optional midterm which was SUPER HARD, making me get a B instead of an A (I compared with a friend). The final was really easy.

Lectures are very boring. He fails at explaining concepts.

Homework from the textbook is really hard and difficult to answer without a solutions manual.

Discussions are where you find help understanding stuff from lecture and homework.

Out of my three quarters of my first year, this professor and his class were the worst. All I remember doing is spending my time memorizing proofs that meant NOTHING to me. If you really want to learn and enjoy 20B, take someone else. If you take him, focus on textbook problems and your discussions and DON'T take that second midterm if you scored average or even a little below average on your first midterm

Course was way too theoretical for a lower div course. Too much proof, not enough application and examples. You will learn much more in 20L
