Professor Campbell really does try to connect with his students and be engaging, but unfortunately, lectures can still be really boring. I had ls7a with both him and Maloy, and when Campbell was teaching, I definitely found it harder to pay attention to his lectures. Also, sometimes his explanations were a little ambiguous.
Campbell is a good professor, but you have to put some energy into staying focused while he is lecturing. He is very knowledgable and excited about the material he is teaching, but he often gets lost in thought during class. His exams, however, are very straightforward without any trick questions, which I appreciated. Stay on top of your LaunchPad assignments and actively pay attention during class, and you should do great.
I took this class when it was co-taught with Professor Maloy, and it is evidently clear that one of the professors is much better than the other at teaching (hint: it's not Campbell). Professor Campbell feels more like a guest lecturer at times, and nothing changes when he takes over lecturing duty (i.e. the syllabus and class schedule remain the same, etc.). I feel like the man is really nice (he even showed up to my room during the final exam to help out the TAs and answer any questions), but he's just not a very good lecturer, not in terms of content, but in terms of attentiveness. His voice is so soft it literally makes you want to crash and snore, even as he lectures while standing right in front of you. He doesn't really have control of the classroom (like Maloy does), and he doesn't try to take control of the classroom either (meaning if you don't sit in the front, you can't really hear him properly). Finally, BEWARE his quick trigger!! This boy will close the clicker poll it seems after just 10 seconds, so I'd recommend whenever the poll opens that you just click something first and then look at the problem (because you need to click in to get your clicker points, which are graded based on completion). I will not like: I spent all of Campbell's lecturers playing Pokemon showdown with my friend right besides me, and at the same time just waiting for Maloy to return.
He co-taught this class with Professor Maloy during the second half of spring quarter of 2019. Although the class itself isn't very difficult (all materials used are in Launchpad), he isn't as clear in explaining concepts as Maloy. His lectures are not only sometimes hard to comprehend, but also hard to pay attention to since they are very lackluster.
