The Russian Pop Culture class was a solid class that was well directed by Professor MacFadyen who has a very lively personality. After he covers the political base of the past 20 years he provides more detail into the cultural changes in various forms of arts, music, and movies that entertain the lives of Russians daily. I really took in alot of applicable information from just this one class and thoroughly enjoyed writing the two necessary papers. He will bring about so many different aspects of the life in Russia that anyone who takes this class will enjoy their time. Also a very understanding paper grader, if you show that you did your research he will reward you with an A.
I took Russian 121 (Russian Pop Culture) with Professor Macfadyen. He is extremely intimidating at first in class, but he is so kind in office hours and very helpful. He is always available, so stop in anytime! He has great ideas and suggestions to help you with your research/papers. Dr. Macfadyen gives you one midterm (5 page paper) and a final essay (10 pages). There are also A LOT of reading--I had trouble keeping up but you are not tested on it. No exams, quizzes, homework, etc. But the papers are a lot of work and require critical thinking, so be sure to put your best effort forth toward them. He lectures very well, showing many youtube clips and other media clips that really held my interest. You learn about film, music, advertising, circus, etc. Show up to class--he really appreciates students who attend class! Show that you care because he is a great professor. He has a British accent, which is quite pleasant to listen to and has a fabulous sense of humor. His grading is very fair (I received an A--but I worked VERY HARD and went to office hours to make sure I was on track). I appreciate that he recognized my hard work and dedication to the class. I heartily recommend this class to everyone! =)
