Professor Schriver is the best professor you can take Physics 6A with in my opinion. He is very clear in what he wants us to know for his exams, and reading the textbook is not necessary (although you can read it for clarification, I guess). The MasteringPhysics problems are a good representation of the actual exam questions. I would love to take another class with Schriver again!

I created an account to post this review. Professor Schriver is hands down the most caring and understanding professor I have EVER encountered. His lectures consist of practice problems from the book, and his tests are based off the same types of problems he does in class. He prepares you above and beyond for the tests. From the class problems worked out, to the homework problems, Professor Schriver makes you feel ready for the tests without having to cram for them.

There are two midterms and a final that's 45%. I got a C on the first midterm, a B on the second midterm, and an A on the final. I ended the class with an A. (I have never had any previous exposure to physics---like NONE) No one really knows how this angel of a person curves his class but no complaints here. He is willing to hear you out on your mistakes on your test and if you feel they are unfair he will consider a regrade.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING 6A WITH SCHRIVER.

What a great professor! Dr. Schriver genuinely cares about his students. He does not try and trick you on his midterms and finals, as long as you can show him that you understand the material, the midterms should not be too difficult. You have homework due once a week on MasteringPhysics and that's it. He offers review sessions before every midterm, and he is so approachable and willing to answer any questions you have. I would definitely recommend him for Physics 6A!

Selling the three textbooks you need for the Physics 6 series, the UCLA store sells the bundle for $177 but I'm selling for $100 and they're in mint condition! (no highlights, marking, rip tears, etc.) text me if interested **********

If you you're like me and can choose to take either Physics 6A or 10 (Psychology majors), the obvious choice seems to be taking 10. However, if you can manage to take 6A with Schriver, go for it! Concise is the perfect word to describe his teaching method, very clear in his lectures and never tries to trick you on exams. The lab section was extremely easy as well. I got a C on the first midterm and somehow ended up with an A at the end, I think a testament to just how fair this class is in helping students who aren't initially good at Physics.

Awesome professor!
The best science professor i have had at UCLA. prof. Shriver is not only kind and approachable he cares about how you do! His lectures are easy to follow and if you show up to them you will understand the material. The main key to doing well in his class is to know everything on his review really well!! Overall you will enjoy having him as a professor!!!
