Professor Uminsky is a good lecturer. He knows what he is talking about and really wants to make sure that his students learn. He is excited about math and it shows. He does ask a lot of questions and wants the class to answer. He will point to someone and have them answer and if they are wrong, he does not criticize you. Even though he teaches well, his exams are really hard! we will make you memorize things like the intermediate value theorem and he wants you to state it word for word on his exams. As long as you can get at least 50% on the exams, you should be in good shape overall. If you have Daniel Ram for a TA, go to discussions because he is a good TA, although he sometimes gets frustrated. Overall he is good. Take him, just make sure you study
Professor Uminsky was actually a good lecturer for a newbie to UCLA. Because we were his first class, he did not know how to teach the class so after he saw how low our scores were for his first midterm, he adjusted his ways and we did a lot better. Unlike the other professors, he seems really excited to be teaching math and tries to convert you over to his side and become a math major. He tells lame jokes that are funny sometimes. The thing I hated that he did was calling people out to answer questions. However, it does force you to be on top of things. Luckily, I wasn't one of the poor people he called on during the quarter. His class was fairly easy considering I didn't study for his first midterm and literally got an F for it. I got a B+ in the class at the end.
PS his TA Giang Tran was horrible...I stopped going to her discussions because they weren't mandatory
