i honestly don't know what these reviews below are talking about... Weisbart has got to be one of the worst math teachers here at UCLA.. He is a nice person, sure.. , but if we're talking about teaching, he's flat-out HORRIBLE. Yeah, he cares about his students learning, but if he can't teach the material, then how the hell are we supposed to "learn" it? His tests are RIDICULOUS.. He doesn't even teach the class half the stuff that he puts on the midterm & final. He DOES go off on random proofs & tangents that aren't significant to the course at all. Oh, and NEVER take his word for anything. If he says he'll post something up the next day, expect it in a week. If you're waiting to see how you did on the first midterm so you can use it to STUDY for the second CUMULATIVE midterm, don't expect it back until a few days RIGHT before the second midterm. And oh, don't expect him to grade anything right away. It'll take him FOREVERR to finally finish. I took my math final FIRST and found out my grade LAST. Give it a month. Another thing, Weisbart is also OVERLY sensitive... so you better be careful about what you put on bruin walk during the quarter because he reads EVERY SINGLE post and will mention it in class. Goodness gracious... S-T-U-D... seriously????? you've got to be kidding me. Sure he's smart, sure he cares, but NONE of this makes him a good teacher.

Probably one of the best, nicest professors I've had at UCLA. He really cared about our learning and went out of his way to make sure he was available if we had questions. He was extremely concerned with whether or not we knew the material. I really enjoyed talking to him because he didn't make me feel stupid if I didn't know what was going on, even if I asked him the same questions thirty times. It's a shame that most premed kids are too stupid and ignorant to realize that Weisbart is really a gem. Probability is not an easy subject, but I actually enjoyed it after taking the class. He goes out of the way to show how the subject is relevant to those pursuing a career in medicine, and after working in a hospital for quite some time now, it's obvious that he's right.

I honestly think this course was unexpected for me. My friends told me "Take this course, it's a breeze" and so I loaded up my schedule not worrying too much about "Probabilty"...boy was I wrong. This is by far the hardest class I've taken all year, yes, even harder than the infamous Organic Chemistry 14C. Nonetheless, I do not regret taking it. Yes it's challenging. Yes I still don't quite understand it 100%. But the way Weisbart teaches it in respect to your future career, it's well worth the struggle. He always emphasizes why certain things are important as a doctor. So yes, this class is definitely hard, but the struggle is worth the learning.

After stumbling across the review directly below this one, I found myself in complete agreement. Weisbart's lectures are life changing, and the skills you learn from this class will be skills that you will keep close to you for the rest of your life. For anyone trying to be a doctor, Weisbart will teach you things that could save some of your future patients' lives by helping you decide whether it is better or worse to give medical treatment to your patients given that there is a possibility that the medication can kill if your patient does not have the disease and the patient actually tested with a false positive. He will also teach you how to better your chances of winning (given that winning is living) in Russian Roulette. In other words, he may save your life. Weisbart is a stud. Period.

Not a lot of people know this, but an alternate spelling of "Weisbart" is "S-T-U-D." This class is without a doubt the most counter intuitive math class I've taken in my career, but it has also been the most informative and the most applicable to life. His lectures are nothing short of life-changing, and although people are going to say "he does proofs in lectures which don't help at all etc..." his proofs and derivations enhance your ability to understand where the formulas come from rather than just how to plug numbers into them. On top of that, Weisbart is probably the smartest professor I've come across, and he even eats his humble pie by claiming he's not good at arithmetic and mental math (good one, David!). The man has a graduate degree in quantum physics, c'mon. In addition, he's extremely nice to talk to, has awesome stories, and can help you with any questions you have about the material. His tests are fair, his grading is accurate, and at the end of the day you come out of his classroom having learned a lot. It's certain that he's a great teacher, it's certain he's a genius; the only thing that's not certain to me is if he's actually human. Enjoy your math.

A lot of students give Professor Weisbart a lot of praise for being such a FANTASTIC teacher, but I honestly have a lot of trouble seeing it. Maybe it's just the material that's made me kind of bitter...because I've never hated math so much before...this stuff is pretty nasty. In any case, I can see that Weisbart is a caring person who tries really hard to engage his students, but in terms of actually TEACHING, he kind of sucks. In lecture, he goes off on random proofs that are like wtf...not even remotely related to the homework. And half the time, his writing is totally illegible. All in all, this class is just blahh.

I thought Professor Weisbart was a truly amazing professor. He really cared about student learning. He was always available if I had any questions, and he took the time to explain the problems step by step. What I thought was the most beneficial part of the course curriculum was when he explained how the problems we were doing were applicable to our lives as future physicians. I take away from his class, useful knowledge that I can put forth in the "real world". Make sure to go to lecture because he likes to make funny jokes and teach you about life in general. Professor Weisbart is an excellent professor! He sincerely wants his students to succeed: his office hours were extremely helpful, and he never looked down upon students who didn't understand lessons the first time around. The class was well paced (we finished the material a week ahead of schedule), and yet still very thought-provoking. It was interesting to listen to professor talk about how combinatorics and probability are applied in science. I honestly had no appreciation or talent for math when entering the course, but after getting help in office hours and taking good notes in lecture I was able to understand the material and actually enjoy learning about it.

I thought Weisbart was a great professor. 3C is probability and not an easy thing. The material isn't easy so don't lay blame on the professor if you end up not doing as great as you thought you were doing. He offers office hours in which you can ask questions. He offers practice midterms and finals. And he has a fair grading system. If you attend lecture and do your hw then you will done fine.

The person below me is on crack. SO not true. Weisbart is A WONDERFUL professor and he's not that easy. The material itself is a bit challenging, NOTHING like calculus, but Weisbart does an amazing job explaining it in such a way for his students to understand. He's a gem of a professor, i want to do well in the class for him because of how much he time he puts into our 3c class.
