I loved this class!! I cannot recommend it enough! I took it for a Global Studies requirement and let me tell you all the films were very interesting and I actually enjoyed class. The class is 3 hours long, so I was a little worried about my ADHD and sitting still for that long, but the movies were so interesting I actually found myself easily staying focused and on task for the discussions. The only 2 grades for the class are participation/attendance and the final paper. The final paper was pretty easy because the prompts were interesting and we fleshed out most the prompts during the discussions in class, so I already had a good idea what I was going to write about the whole quarter. The professor is very nice, super knowledgable, and overall a great guy to take a class with. He made an effort to learn everyone's names.

This is a very chill, once a week class with only 1 assignment (2500 word paper). Professor Thomas is very kind and considerate of his students. The class is structured by playing a movie and discussing its themes afterward. None of the films actually take place in France (only a few have actual French-speaking dialogue) and is more just focused on themes of immigrants and displacement in Europe. Professor Thomas will guide the whole discussion, people just raise their opinion/thoughts and Professor Thomas will spin it from there. You don't necessarily have to participate yourself, but **attendance** is mandatory through a sign-in sheet.
Overall, the class isn't too bad because you'll get ideas what to write about and you're given several prompts to choose from. Some movies are pretty interesting too. My paper probably wasn't amazing (I'm a STEM major so I usually don't take writing classes) but I still got an A.

I was fortunate enough to take French 142, French 134, and Global Studies 110A & 110B (in Paris) with Professor Thomas, and he is by far the best professor I have had at UCLA. His lectures/discussions are lively, stimulating and interesting. He has the unique ability to make everyone feel comfortable while also challenging the class to think critically and participate. He also does not give unnecessary busy work/assignments, and instead focuses on final papers and discussions, which I appreciated and took great value from. He is also incredibly approachable and genuinely cares about his students, so I felt very comfortable coming to office hours and asking questions. UCLA would benefit from having more dedicated and passionate faculty like Professor Thomas.
