This professor is of the lowest quality. He does not actually teach the material and yet he tests you on it. I have no idea how he became tenure, but his teaching skills are certainly lacking. Don't take the risk! Avoid his classes at all costs.

McCallum is very knowledgable and passionate about his areas of expertise. He is friendly and accessible. I cannot speak to the undergraduate experience, but as a graduate student with an interest in the material (Buddhism in early Japan) and a willingness to work hard, he was a wonderful professor. The workload was not too strenuous.
