For course Ethano 91J

This class is beyond silly. There is no syllabus. He tells us the grading system the first day of class written on a chalkboard with the numbers here and there. He mentioned that we have to attend two culture events but he never made it clear if we were performing or not until the week before. We were there to watch his performance--out of the two performances we only had to write one paper. I'm thankful for this, however, I believe he never read it and so our grades were purely based on the final. He announces our grade in front of the class. There is absolute no privacy. He publicly ridicules student.

We do not know what we are doing each day. He plays favorite, and likes to pick on certain students though others may be doing poorly. It's a very unorganized class.

Read it before you choose this class because I might save you from suffering mentally. Kim is risking his life keeping with his style. What a great man! Really, you would have a feeling to beat him up after the class. He has no respect for his students. Every single session, you will have to suffer from mental abuses and undergo enormous pressures. Not only he yells at you and humiliates you when making mistakes, but also he always threatens to lower your grade out of funny reasons(if you don't bring your text book). I have always heard that teachers have absolutely power over the students and they will harshly criticize their students in public. Kim definitely has brought that style to UCLA. That is probably why only Korean students can endure this and they are always around him. Many of my friends dropped the class after the humiliated by him. This is how he responded: "go ahead! drop the class." I have never seen such a professor. I would have dropped it if I had enough units.
Secondly, he is very disorgnised. He did not make everything clear at the beginning of the class. There was no syllabus, so students did not expect Two concerts, one final, and one paper. It is hard to follow if the professor just changes his mind from second to second. He requests students to attend concert when he feels like because he is the performer. (most part of the concert is a suffer, but some students performers are great)I was told by my friend there was only one concert when she was taking. As far as i know, some semesters have three concerts. He told us the last concert was the last day of the final' week in the 9th week, but many studens already had plans to leave the town if they were going to have early finals. Who wants to stay a few extra day for his awful performance, especially for who already booked airplain ticket in advance. I was witnessing that a girl tried to explained the situation to him and asked him to substitute the concert for something else. He did not care and just said: " The concert is 30% of your grade" which he did not mention before.
Lastly, he is not concerned to his students AT ALL. He never responds to emails no matter how urgent you need to get in touch with him. He makes all his 10 classes on wednesday, so teaches from 9am to 8pm continually. The rest of the week, he will not be on campus. What a brilliant way to escape from students. He always speaks Korean in the class when there are many non-korean speakers. Sometimes, he will try to be funny and tells some cold jokes.
I have just given a precise discription of him and his class. There are many other easy class to pick. Moreover, his class is not guaranteed A. I went to every session, concerts and wrote a good paper. I ended up with a B+ because I did not perform well on the final. It is because his TA told me to do the wrong move. He doesn't care when I tried to explain.

His class is an easy A if you show up. You call him racist and suck-ups for As?
I'm not Korean and still got an A, so that's hog-wash, if you show up you're garunteed an A. Professor Kim is quite a funny guy and really fun with the Buk players. It's kind of tough and we only worked on one song the entire semester and still couldn't finish it, but that's not his fault. We only had to go three concerts in the semester and he chose not to give us a paper at the end! I mean, this is an easy fun class where you will also learn about Korean culture and he's risked his life and status all for the sake of Korean music, so take his class already! this will be my second time in Winter!
