The class material is very useful and interesting, but the lecture is extremely boring and discussions session is meaningless. You just need to study with book by yourself. Lecture is not worth going. Don't focus on too details on the text book, but memorize the rules, definitions, and morphemes. The very first quiz grade doesn't matter that much as long as you do well on the third quiz. However, I don't really recommend this class if you are looking for an easy GE

I took EnglishM40 (Ling 10) with Minkova. It was a pretty demanding G.E however, it was extremely interesting material and I really enjoyed it. The homework is very little and your grade is based off of 3 quizzes, a 3-4 page paper, and a final. No midterms. If you like memorizing then this is the class for you. The most demanding part of the course was memorizing a bunch of roots and remembering them throughout the quarter as well as keeping track of all the different morphological rules. I came into this class skeptical as it was my fallback for not getting into a class for my major. So I took it, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. It has even made me consider switching my minor to Linguistics. Donka is great, she's the cutest sweetest little old lady and she's very approachable. Her TA's are fantastic and very reasonable when it comes to grading. I would recommend this class to anyone!
