While this is generally a more difficult class I had a very positive experience with Dr. Deweese. She is a very good lecturer and explained the concepts with detail and clarity. When I took this class she was co-teaching it with Dr. Courey so she only taught the second half of the course. While the final was not a walk in the park it was very doable as long as you studied. If I were to take this course again I would definitely want her as my professor.

Take chemistry with her!!! She genuinely cares about her students. You could get away with not going to the lecture by doing the iClickers from afar, but sitting through the lectures is best, as she is engaging. I would also recommend her office hours; she's really nice and good at breaking down material. While the discussions are long, they're all done as a group, so you'll be okay, make friends, and it will go by fast. She did offer an extra credit essay assignment, which wasn't too bad, and at the end of the day, did help our grades. They say that they don't curve, but I think that they do bc I did badly on the exams and still passed. Lots of math and conceptual stuff, so if you're good with that, then you've got this in the bag.

I took Professor Deeweese my spring quarter of 2025 here at UCLA, and let me just start off by saying how math based 14B is. If you come into the course already confused from 14A, 14B is 10x harder. The Chem14BE is a series which is just enhanced from the original 14B course. You definitely have a longer discussion(1hr and 50 min) but it is extremely helpful when trying to study for the exams. You can reference discussion packets for practice problems and questions. Office hours are also immensely helpful, especially her's! She wasn't, the only professor. I also had Albert Courey , which he taught the first half of 14BE, and let me just say I never understood a single thing he would say when he was lecturing. I will say his exam(midterm) was much simpler compared to the exam Deeweese wrote(final), which was completely diabolical. If you are thinking about taking this course, I would say do it, if you are already struggling in 14A, because 14B is more math and physics related, and god could no one have prepared me for the amount of content I had to study for! There are not really curves given here tbh so if you are looking for that , def not here. She does give extra credit here and there but not life changing.

As far as the class itself I really disliked what we learned- it felt like a physics class not chemistry, but Deweese was absolutely amazing. Genuinely such an amazing teacher, very clear and engaging lecturer, and she really cares about her students. If you go to office hours she is SOOOO helpful!
