Dr. Dauer is a pretty chill guy who cares a lot about students who are wishing to go into med school. I took this class over summer and honestly found it to be a fairly challenging course, given that none of his lectures were recorded and his quizzes were extremely specific. The quizzes were also closed-note, making this class mainly about memorization. The powerpoint slides were okay but honestly the 2 hour zoom lecture from him was pretty hard to sit through/to stay engaged in. But he really cares about students and emphasizes that he wants to mentor pre-meds and help then on their path to med school. He shows some really cool stuff in the slides that I found to be really interesting but overall this class was not an easy A.

One of the greatest professors at UCLA. He is actually from the University of Miami, Florida so UCLA is EXTREMELY fortunate to have him fly all the way over to teach his class over the summer.
Dr. Dauer is a great lecturer. He made the class so engaging that all the concepts were very understandable and easy to learn. His goal was to have students understand bioengineering and at the end of the day that goal was very well achieved.
In other words, Dr. Dauer isn't there to "lecture", but to "teach".
He emphasizes important points to focus on since this class is a LOT of material. But this way, students are able to learn all of the concepts and also do well on the tests at the same time.
He also has amazing stories to tell throughout his lectures!

Dr. Dauer also makes himself very available before and after class. He uses this time as office hours and also to get to know students and their future career goals and to give students advice on how to actually reach those goals.

The class is 2 quizzes and 2 exams and 1 research paper.
These tests are no stress at all though if you take notes off of what Dr. Dauer says and off of the slides because Dr. Dauer is honest and fair when it comes to what the tests will cover.
For the research paper, you get to choose your topic where you compare two concepts from the lectures. It's also a very doable paper because Dr. Dauer explains the concepts so thoroughly that you already have a strong foundation on which to build upon and start your essay.

So take Dr. Dauer because he's a great lecturer and an even greater person. He helps you in AND out of class in terms of career pathways and goals.
The class and Dr. Dauer himself is unforgettable and again, UCLA students are fortunate to have him.

Thanks, Dr. D!

Take this class if you can! The class consists of 2 quizzes, 2 exams, a research paper, and participation. Don't stress about the paper, just write about a topic you want to know more about. The material is very interesting if you're interested in medicine or biomedical engineering, but the best part is Dr. Dauer. He is so kind and very supportive of all his students. He offers regular OHs but also informal ones before class as well- go to them! One thing to note though is that although the tests are fair, they are very specific. For example in T/F questions only one word will be changed in a statement that isn't that noticeable upon the first read. The second half of the class is a bit more difficult because it includes topics that you probably know little about (SEM, TEM, diagnostic imaging, etc.). Other than that, everything is great. Thanks Dr. Dauer!

Having studied both medicine and engineering, Dr. Dauer truly knows the material and excellently bridges medicine and biomedical engineering. The material is very interesting and Dr. Dauer always makes lectures engaging. He is also extremely available to students, making it easy to get help outside of class. Course consists of two exams, two quizzes, and a research paper. Highly recommend taking this class!

Professor Dauer is by far one if the best professors I have had at UCLA. Not only are his lectures extremely engaging and very interesting, but Dr. Dauer also truly cares about his students' well being. He makes himself very available to meet for questions about the course and about graduate school. Dr. Dauer also gave us a lecture on medical school and tips to improve acceptance, which was very helpful. He truly wants his students to succeed in both his class and life and does not want his course to cause unnecessary stress. I would highly recommend this course to anybody able to take it and I truly wish he taught additional classes at UCLA. Take this class; you will not regret it.

Dr. Dauer truly cares about his students and I would highly recommend taking Phy Sci 122 with him, if you have the opportunity to do so. Dr. Dauer's experience in the field of Biomedical Technology and Medicine is evident, and it was exciting to be able to learn about the progression of biomedical technology as well as the state of current research in the field. Discussing case studies, learning how to read EKGs, or how to analyze abnormal PET scans, really provided the class with real-world applications for the material, making it that much more fascinating. Even going beyond the classroom, Dr. Dauer always made himself available for office hours and appointments, and was genuinely enthusiastic and invested in enhancing student learning and answering questions related to medical school, including the admissions and interview processes.

Course grades consist of 2 exams, 2 quizzes, and one research paper and participation. Dr. Dauer is extremely clear about what he expects the class to understand and I found the exams and quizzes to be straightforward and fair. If you pay attention during lecture and study, you will do well.

This is class is perfect for those with an interest in medicine or biomedical technology, especially if you are considering going to medical school. I really think many students would benefit from the opportunity to have Dr. Dauer as a professor and resource. Take his class!

Dr. Dauer is a great professor who has high concern for his students' academic performances. He is readily available in and outside of class. He has in depth knowledge of the topic since he also teaches biomedical engineering classes. Fair tests and grades. Also he is pretty funny during the lecture so his lectures are never boring. I recommend taking this course with Dr. Dauer to other students.

Dr. Dauer is one of the fewest professors that care about his students' success, their futures, and any of their course concerns. At first I was a bit intimidated by the course description (because of the many requirements in order to take the class). However, I was heavily surprised and relieved to learn that the class is pleasantly different from all of my expectations. I learned more because of his interesting lectures and I also engaged more with the course concepts because of how I had grown to become deeply interested in biotechnology such as cardiovascular stents (for example). Please take Dr. Dauer's class whenever you find the chance! No matter how much information he throws at you, it is interesting as heck and totally worth it.
