If you're looking for an easy but interesting GE, this class is the way to go. Homework was 1 online quiz per week, around 6-8 questions. The midterm and final (taken online) were straightforward; many of the questions are repeats from past HW quizzes. Professor Young is passionate about what he teaches, very helpful with questions, and makes the course content that much more intriguing. That being said, lectures aren't mandatory to attend and you can find recordings of his lectures on bruinlearn.

I would strongly recommend this class to everyone. I think the content is somewhat interesting and the professor is very passionate and knowledgable in what he teaches. The quizzes, midterms and finals were all online. The only thing required in this class is the discussion that you go and do some practice papers, which are very chill. The lectures are not mandatory. Overall, I would say it is an easy GE and I recommend taking the class!

All I can say is TAKE THIS CLASS! I picked it to fulfill a physical science GE and it was a great decision. His grading summary is as follows: Quizzes - 30% Discussion and participation - 20% Midterm - 25% Final 25%. There is an online textbook and optional readings before each class, but he states that it is not required, it is just there if you want extra help or knowledge. (I didn't do any of the readings and I still got an A)

Every single quiz and exam was online and multiple choice through Canvas with no additional app that requires you to record you or lock your browser. The quizzes were weekly. He would open them sometime during the weekend and closed it on Tuesday which is when he held lecture. The quizzes were always less than 10 questions. When it came to the midterm and final he would allow it to be open all day so you had until 11:59pm to complete it. For the midterm it was 42 multiple choice questions and the time limit was one hour and 20 minutes. Most of the questions were from the previous quizzes. The final exam was 67 multiple choice questions with a three hour time limit. Again, most of the questions were from the quizzes and midterm.

Going to discussions is apart of your participation grade. My TA (Wenyi Sun) allowed us only one day to miss, otherwise you would need a doctors note or valid reason on why you were missing discussion. The way she counted attendance was completing a worksheet, graded on completion not correctness, and you would have until the end of discussion to turn it in or you could turn it in to her box before the next week when you will meet again.

The lectures itself were kind of boring sometimes, but there were some interesting lectures like when he talked about the moon or specific planets. He is a funny guy and very chill. He cracks jokes here and there and is very approachable. He used slides and would try to post them before each class, but sometimes did it after. The first lecture was pretty discouraging because he started off talking a lot about physics, distance, and things of that nature, but if you stick with it a lot of the lectures have to do with basic facts, space missions, scientists, definitions, etc. He doesn't expect you to remember any formulas that he introduces.

Overall, I highly recommend this class and this professor for an easy A.

edward young is my favourite man to literally ever exist. he is so passionate that it makes things i never thought i would be interested in so engaging and fun. i 10/10 recommend this guy for this class, it was a fantastic class for a first quarter freshman. it was lowkey intimidating on the first day because it was so technical so fast, but the quizzes are so so easy. plus discussion is fun and worth a lot of points (shoutout francis fr!) his ties are super dope also. take this class!

He is very funny and a very good lecturer! Very nice teacher and very good at explaining material presented. I do not recommend buying the textbook because you honestly don’t need it. He offered extra credit and all exams were take home and online. Overall great class to fulfill a GE with a great professor!

Highly recommend this class especially as a GE. Professor Young is very knowledgable about the material which makes the class fun to sit in and hear about all the planets. There is no homework outside of class other than weekly take home quizzes though canva that are never more than 10 questions. 100% recommend

I cannot stress this enough: TAKE THIS CLASS!!! I literally can’t see why it has anything but a 5/5 rating. Mr. Young is the GOAT of GOATS. This class is the absolute easiest A. You don’t have to go to lectures to do well in the class. Discussions are important, but the (easy) assignments you’re given each section are graded based on participation, so it’s a quick 100. I know there are weekly readings, but don’t make the mistake of purchasing the book and actually doing them. You’ll get an A regardless. TRUST ME. It may seem like too much on the first day of class, but hang in there because it’s about to do a whole 180. Easiest GE with the best, funniest, and most passionate professor.

Very low-maintenance class, just take some notes and study for midterm/final. Discussions are based on completion of worksheets. Lecture attendance not required, but you should review each of the lectures before the midterm and final. I will say the final was surprisingly challenging in comparison to the midterm.

Good class for a relatively easy GE. The only assignments are weekly homework + one midterm & final.

This class is mainly planetary physics, and for someone who never took physics before, it was a little difficult to wrap my head around the concepts. However, professor Young is very understanding that this class is a GE and is ready to review difficult concepts. You are never expected to do any actual math on tests. but rather recognize the meanings of concepts and equations.

This quarter, I was told that there was some miscommunication with room reservations and bruin cast which meant that none of the lectures were recorded or live-streamed. This made it hard to review or catch up on a missed lecture because the slides just served as support rather than containing all the content. However, I hope Prof. Young does not let this happen again.

Overall, I recommend this class and prof for an easy GE.

It’s clear that professor young is very passionate about the material as he often presents pictures on slides instead of actual content. That being said, it’s important to go to lectures because you won’t understand the material well by looking at pictures on slides. Discussion sections are often not related to lectures, but very easy as TA guides you through hw/labs. There is one midterm and final, both are very easy and straightforward. I really appreciate how the prof adjusted for online and made the tests fewer questions than usual and gave us longer time. This is a good physical science ge and I recommend it to everyone.
