I cannot stress this enough: TAKE THIS CLASS!!! I literally can’t see why it has anything but a 5/5 rating. Mr. Young is the GOAT of GOATS. This class is the absolute easiest A. You don’t have to go to lectures to do well in the class. Discussions are important, but the (easy) assignments you’re given each section are graded based on participation, so it’s a quick 100. I know there are weekly readings, but don’t make the mistake of purchasing the book and actually doing them. You’ll get an A regardless. TRUST ME. It may seem like too much on the first day of class, but hang in there because it’s about to do a whole 180. Easiest GE with the best, funniest, and most passionate professor.

Very low-maintenance class, just take some notes and study for midterm/final. Discussions are based on completion of worksheets. Lecture attendance not required, but you should review each of the lectures before the midterm and final. I will say the final was surprisingly challenging in comparison to the midterm.

Good class for a relatively easy GE. The only assignments are weekly homework + one midterm & final.

This class is mainly planetary physics, and for someone who never took physics before, it was a little difficult to wrap my head around the concepts. However, professor Young is very understanding that this class is a GE and is ready to review difficult concepts. You are never expected to do any actual math on tests. but rather recognize the meanings of concepts and equations.

This quarter, I was told that there was some miscommunication with room reservations and bruin cast which meant that none of the lectures were recorded or live-streamed. This made it hard to review or catch up on a missed lecture because the slides just served as support rather than containing all the content. However, I hope Prof. Young does not let this happen again.

Overall, I recommend this class and prof for an easy GE.

It’s clear that professor young is very passionate about the material as he often presents pictures on slides instead of actual content. That being said, it’s important to go to lectures because you won’t understand the material well by looking at pictures on slides. Discussion sections are often not related to lectures, but very easy as TA guides you through hw/labs. There is one midterm and final, both are very easy and straightforward. I really appreciate how the prof adjusted for online and made the tests fewer questions than usual and gave us longer time. This is a good physical science ge and I recommend it to everyone.

Prof Young has a contagious enthusiasm for the course content that made a lot of us more engaged in the material. This was good because the material can get pretty dry sometimes, with the professor sometimes spending too much time (for my tastes) on charts and graphs listing out data when the concept underlying is really all we have to know. Still, the class was enjoyable and genuinely interesting a lot of the time, and quite easy as well. There is one weekly assignment that you'll mostly finish during discussion section. Beyond that, the only responsibilities you have is to study for a few hours before the midterm and final, both of which the professor prepares us for with sample questions. Note that there is a (free) textbook associated with the class, but reading it is not necessary for the tests. Also, don't be scared about any mathematical proofs or complicated physics stuff that might pop up, you won't need to do any complex math for the exams, only know basic things like what the equation is used for. All the lectures are recorded.
In short, Professor Young has a pleasant and enthusiastic attitude and is knowledgable about the course content. The course content is interesting at times and honestly pretty boring at others, but overall I would recommend the class as an easy GE.

Grade is based on midterm and final. Both tests have study guides that have 20ish identical questions. No critical thinking at all, just memorization. Professor Young seems really cool and loves teaching but his lectures got kind of boring since he would just nerd out and talk about irrelevant space stuff. Definitely an easy GE

Professor Young is a super engaging lecturer. You don't need to read the textbook at all - just make sure to stay awake (which could be challenging at times when he turns the lights all the way down to show us space pictures) and take good notes. Before tests, make sure to check out quizlet, just search for the course number and you'll see a ton of resources to study for the test. On top of that, go over the notes and you should be fine.

Professor Young was this cool grandpa who wore space ties. He put the slideshows up online, which was cool of him. Near the end of the quarter it got harder to pay attention in class because I was barely alive then, but in general his lectures were fairly interesting and easy to understand. The midterm and finals were all multiple choice and painfully easy, so if you want a chill GE about a fun and interesting topic, I definitely recommend! Lab sections were also easy, you filled out a packet and what you didn't finish was homework basically.
