The best class in the accounting minor I've ever taken. By far.
She uploads all her lecture videos at the start of class, so you can watch everything at your own pace. Pretty helpful. She goes through the notes with you in "fill-in-the blank" style, so lectures are clear and helpful. No complaints at all about the lecture style or clarity.
Homework is only recommended, but those that did it tended to do better. You probably don't need to do ALL the recommended questions (she recommends more than necessary); just do at least one from each topic. If you choose to completely skip the homework, it might be hard to get an A.
There are 3 quizzes, each worth 33%. If you pay attention to her lectures, take good notes, and do at least some of the recommended homework, you should be more than fine to get an A. Sometimes the book/homework contradicts what she teaches in lecture (since the book sometimes uses weird accounts), but always remember to use what she taught us as a rule-of-thumb in these cases. Quizzes were also multiple choice and non-cumulative, which helped.
She also gave us an Extra Credit Opportunity worth 3% of our grade, which is a pretty substantial chunk and certainly helped push some students over the edge for an A. It seems as if most of my peers were successful and enjoyed this class. I certainly did. Highly recommend Woo for 120A.
Professor Woo is an excellent and well-organized teacher. Her lectures are clear, the notes have good examples, and office hours are very helpful. Grades consisted of three exams that were equally weighted, open note, and not cumulative. Homework wasn't collected and was helpful for applying concepts from lectures, but the problems weren't exactly like exams. Even though exam averages were pretty high she gave 3 points of extra credit for completing the course evaluation. You can really tell that Professor Woo cares for her students and wants you to succeed. I hope I get the chance to take another class with Professor Woo!
Professor Woo is very knowledgeable about accounting and her notes are very clear. I would say that the material is still challenging and we moved quickly through the chapters. I recommend doing all of the practice problems she assigns to get fully understand the material and make sure you understand everything in her notes because she tests on stuff that you might not think is that important. Also, her exams are pretty difficult; there's multiple choice, short FRQ, and long FRQ except there is no partial credit given so make sure you study for the exams. Her grading scheme is: 10% super easy assignment (takes less than 10 minutes), 10% quiz on mgmt 1A and 1B, 35% midterm, 45% final (non-cumulative). She also gives 2% extra credit for submitting the course evaluation and extra credit on the final. Our class average on the midterm and final were 60% so she ended up curving the class a lot and made a 75% an A. Overall, the material is kind of challenging but good class.
This class was awful because it is impossible to complete the midterm and final exams on time. However, the average is always an A, which means some students have an "advantage" which I won't say but you can assume what it is, given the class is asynchronous. Professor says she will curve the final grades but they don't help for those who don't have a high B or above.
Awful. Wish Anderson made these classes more on actually learning the material over having students just try to get through this class barely put together for the "minor requirements."
Take at your own risk and best of luck!
