My favorite part of this course were the interactions that occured in class. Students got the chance to communicate in french with their peers. This experience allowed me to feel comfortable with my french skills while pushing me to strive for growth. Dr. Duval is an incredible professor who emphasizes the merits of communication in and outside of class. She constantly provides resources and inform her students about events that all involve french-speaking opportunities. I appreciates how she built a classroom culture focused on growth rather than perfectionism. She genuinely cares about the well-being and success of each individual.

With her, French feels way more engaging and fun. She begins every class with a song that connects to the lesson she aims to uncover. This routine feels extremely appealing to the mind and mood. I've literally saved most of these songs because they're so darn catchy! Moreover, Dr. Duval incoporates within her lessons slides, videos, and readings that encourage students to participate.

Homework consists of Mindtap, which is an online textbook/platform with lessons and practice problems (something similar to Duolingo - super fun, direct, and organized!). Other times there is little writing that is assigned three times throughout the whole quarter. When it comes to the tests, there are two midterms and one final exam. What's mostly being tested is grammar, reading comprehension, and oral/writing skills.

I have never found myself lost in this class because Dr. Duval ensures clarity in everything she addresses. Her office hours are extremely helpful. Attending office hours will allow you to make up for any absences. Keep in mind attendance is part of your grade. You can also attend office hours to borrow books in french :)!

Overall, Dr. Duval is an extremely passionate professor who inspires others around her. Taking that class encouraged me to declare a minor in French! I would recommend everyone to take that class, especially if you have background in french and have taken the French Placement Exam. Good Luck!
