One of the best Math Professors I've had at UCLA.
Professor Ozel was a terrific professor and a great choice for any math class.

The workload is very light, with no turned in homework, a couple of quizzes and 1 midterm and 1 final.

Quizzes
His quizzes were short and simple to do. He had five quizzes each with one or two questions (keep in mind this is a summer course), and he drops the lowest 2 quizzes.
This category should be and will be an easy 100%.

Exams
Very straightforward and straight out of his lectures and textbook. I think the average was like a 95% on his midterm, (I don't really remember the exact number, but it was a crazy high number).
He does not curve down either and grades very nicely. I got some notation wrong, but all he did was write a note on my exam saying to change the notation, and he didn't take off any points.

His final was just like his midterm, very straightforward, lifted from his lectures and textbook. I don't know the average for the final, but I'm sure it was just as high as his midterm average.

His lectures were engaging, helpful, and overall very interesting. My only gripe with his lectures was that he had everything written down in advance on a pdf, so he went a little bit fast and it was definitely not possible to write everything down before he moves on.
I ended up writing down the notes and sometimes printing them before lecture, and then just took notes on his thoughts and tips.

Overall, terrific professor, helpful, engaging, and very straightforward. I highly recommend him for math 61 and any class.

In my opinion, Dr. Ozel is one of the best math professors I've had so far. He is very passionate about the material and explains everything really well during lectures. He always makes sure to answer all questions students may have during lectures and office hours and is really kind. The exams had a few questions that were a little challenging, but definitely not difficult overall as long as you prepare appropriately. The quizzes were really straightforward too, and he allowed you to drop one of the quizzes.

The only downside to taking the class online with him is that he tended to go over material pretty quickly during lectures since he used pre-written notes, which made taking down notes during lectures difficult. But all his lectures were recorded and the notes were uploaded to CCLE, so it wasn't really a big issue. Nevertheless, I'm extremely glad to have taken this class with Dr. Ozel, and if I have a choice, I will definitely take another class with him again in the future.

Math 61 with professor Ozel was a great experience. He gives great, engaging lectures with creative and often funny examples. He has a passion for discrete maths and you can see this in his detailed responses to any of your doubts via email. He often sends extra material for those who want to learn more about the subject.

He lectures from his prewritten notes and sometimes writes on them to clarify gray areas. Some people might not consider this to be an ideal way of lecturing but it worked fine for this class.

Homework was optional but is good practice. He dropped 1 out of 5 quizzes in the summer session version of the class. The tests can be challenging but if you pay attention in lectures and the review sessions professor holds, you will be well acclimated to the types of questions in the tests.

Would definitely take this class again!

I really enjoyed math 61 with Prof. Ozel. His lectures were engaging and I found the material to be really interesting. Since this was a summer class, homework was optional, but I recommend at least looking at it because it really helped me on exams. For his exams, there's a lot of material covered, but the content is not difficult, it just requires some thinking. Definitely recommend taking this class with Ozel if you can

I took this class during summer session A 2020 (things may be different because summer + covid), but the breakdown was the better score between 20% quizzes, 30% midterm, 50% final or 20% quizzes, 15% midterm, 65% final. There were 5 quizzes total and the lowest 2 were dropped. Professor Ozel is incredibly helpful and clear. He would handwrite the notes for the entire chapter beforehand and upload them to ccle so you could follow along during lectures. His notes were organized and provided clear definitions and many examples. He was always willing to answer questions and re-explain concepts. Although there were no homework assignments, he provided a list of homework questions from the textbook that you can practice from. His quizzes and exams were fair. Overall, I really enjoyed this class, and I would definitely take professor Ozel again!
