Winter 2025 - Professor Deeds is a fantastic person and a great professor. His lectures were engaging and easy to follow. There is iClicker for participation. You have learning teams, but sitting with them/working with them in lecture is not necessarily required. If you pay attention and engage, you will do well in this class. Office hours are extremely helpful. All the TAs are well trained and well versed in the topic. If I ever see a another course I need in the future taught by Professor Deeds, I would 100% take it with him.

Fall 2024 - I highly recommend this class to all Computational Biology major. Not only is it easy, but I genuinely learned information beyond what is covered in a textbook. The class is designed by Prof Deeds and Hoffman based on their experience and research in the field. The class consists of weekly homework assignments (9 total with the lowest one dropped) worth 75% of the grade, attendance worth 10% of the grade, and a final project (2-3 page paper + 4 figures) worth 15% of the grade. The grading is VERY easy; even if you don't pay attention in class, the homework takes around 1-2 hours (3 hours max) with little to no coding. The TAs in the class are also very helpful with debugging and the final project. We were also allowed to work in groups for the final project, but everyone had to submit their individual paper. As the grade distribution indicates, this class is a VERY easy A. Overall, I'd highly recommend this class.
