This is an incredibly easy GE but you will 100% not learn a single thing that has bearing on real life. Most of the material is theoretical and the professor's lectures are not engaging whatsoever. You have to buy the textbook for the assignments, but even as somebody who read every single reading, I didn't learn a single thing. There are three pop quizzes, four event reports, a midterm, and a final, which can be done in a group. The grading is extremely lenient and there are multiple extra credit opportunities that cover you even if you fail the pop quizzes, which are stupidly specific. It's a fine class that does the job with very little work but it's a waste of time
I have really enjoyed this class so far as it is really easy and there are not many assignments. However, I feel like the context in the readings and lectures have a lot of examples and are a little hard to comprehend. The lectures are also very long on a Friday morning which is very hard some days. Overall, the class does not assign much homework besides for the one reading a week, however when spread out, it is pretty easy. This class could also get boring as it is from 9:00-11:50 and goes over a lot of examples.
I don't like the fact that make us to buy a course reader that has no use(Desma 10 fall 2017), so I'll put it on sale for any price that you want. I hope it be useful for you; though it was not to me **********
Professor Huhtamo is really passionate about design. I personally really enjoyed his class and liked his enthusiasm about the subject. The class from what I remember had 2 outside event reviews, one midterm essay where the course reader was helpful,a scavenger hunt, and the final which was a time capsule about design objects. Attendance was also taken since the class only met once a week. Most students left after attendance was taken however I personally recommend staying and listening to his lectures as they are useful when writing the midterm and final essays.
Overall it was a pretty easy GE and totally manageable. You don't really have to do the readings that are assigned but its pretty useful to skim though them as you have to refer to them and cite them in the midterm essay.
There are two group work opportunities, one was the scavenger hunt that the TAs and the Professor organized that was fairly entertaining and incorporated large portions of the campus. The other opportunity was working on the final as a group. I personally did the final on my own and it was completely manageable, however I would suggest starting on it early because part of it also includes putting together a diagram of the time capsule as well as including a specific number of citations.
This is a fairly easy GE, I got an A and really enjoyed the class.

This class was pretty easy but 3 hours is a long time to focus. Prof is really funny and the lecture is mostly interesting. There is a break in between where they take attendance. I didn't like how attendance required you to walk up to your TA and sign a paper. 300 people trying to do that at once was chaotic and horrible every time. Course reader is recommended but to be honest I stopped reading 3 weeks into the quarter. The 3 quizzes are the only thing that require knowledge of the course reader. It was also needed for the midterm paper and the final paper to source from. Midterm and final grading really depend on your TA but they tend to grade harsher on the midterm for sure. I got a B+ on the midterm but an A in the class. Overall an easy class, just a little annoying.
Selling my lightly used course reader for $20 (originally $40), email me at ************* if you're interested!

the class was great, pretty easy and only met once a week which was nice. professor was funny and passionate about what he taught. truly enjoyed taking the class and learning from him- the quizzes were kinda tricky but didn't count for much of the grade anyway
