Listen, this is an easy GE but the teacher is likeeee basically rude. I was scared to breathe in that class, I kid you not, you ask the person next to you one question she is going to call you out in front of the wholeee class. And then blame you for throwing her off. Don't get me wrong, the class is overly easy and if you show up and do the work you'll get an A. But the professor isn't gonna help you and she def isn't that approachable. But that's just my opinion take it with a grain of salt. Good luck
I took this class as a GE in my first quarter of UCLA. If you are looking for an easy GE, I would recommend taking this class. Professor Momeni is not a very engaging professor and her lectures were confusing and not related to what we were talking about in discussion. Overall, most of your grade is based on in-class (online questions) and discussion participation or writing gender journals (300 words, 2 per week). The final paper is worth the last 20ish percent of your grade. If you get a good TA, this class is an easy way to get a GE out of the way.
Really nice professor! Very engaging, really easy, as it is only two journals a week, 300 words each, and one final essay in the end of the quarter. Highly recommend!
The course is nice. A good GE for getting high scores. The professor is responsible. If you talk or scroll in class, she may directly call on you. We can openly talk about a lot of topics that may be seen as taboo in modern society. Just not a big fan of the way she lectures; she does not speak fluently and goes on tangents a lot - a little hard for me to stay focused. A little too much weekly assigned reading (but I don't read them every week, and I was fine during lectures). 3 gender journals (changed to 2 later) per week can be a burden, but they are also good for critical thinking and active reflections. Attendance is a big portion of the grades; attendance is tracked by Poll Everywhere, and you need to check in location.
Honestly not much to say except really easy class, the material and lectures were pretty cool and the TA I had (shout out to Cihanghir) was really sweet and a fair grader! There wasn't much workload expect weekly journals (you just write your own thoughts on gender or something) and a paper, also attendance was a huge chunk of your grade, so just show up to class. Definitely take this class with Professor Momeni, she's really chill. Just don't show up too late to class or she'll get upset.
Very easy GE. Giant chunk of your grade is just participation, which means showing up to class and filling out a google form (which is not graded on your answer, just that you completed it). The same goes for discussion participation. There is weekly reading that you sometimes have to tie in during a discussion, but you can get away with just reading one of the four and using it as your example. There is a social media project which is graded fairly loosely (since the professor wants you to have a creative outlet) and then a final paper that's only 1000 words of an analysis of a music video. I would say your grade is very dependent on your TA. The professor uses slides but mostly goes on her own tangents so lectures can get a bit boring. Overall worth it for an easy A.
The content of this class is interesting but the slides were confusing and lecture didn't always connect to the readings. Participation and going to lecture is a big part of your grade. The professor often went on tangents and had obvious opinions on certain topics. She also misgendered one of her former TAs and guest lecturer (I don't recommend this class if you're trans/nb/genderqueer).
I loved this class! Professor Momeni is super funny and her lectures were surprisingly interesting. This class has little to no assignments, and the final paper was really fun to write because I got to choose the music video I wrote about and analyzed. My TA was AMAZING- shout out Da In Choi. She was so sweet and genuinely cared about everyone in her discussion and graded super fairly. Any time someone told her an idea for a project she'd be so supportive and facilitated really engaging discussions. As someone who struggles to participate due to social anxiety, Da In made the environment so welcoming and I found myself looking forward to the discussion section because the topics covered were so interesting. Overall 10/10, I would 100% take this again
