This class is okay in terms of easiness. It's really important to read the book, and he puts his slides online. Coroniti is pretty awesome because he frequently stops throughout the lecture to ask if anybody has questions. Also, the class average is graded as a B, so though it may seem like the tests are hard, the curve definitely helps. Just study the guide he gives you before each test and you should do fine.

Often difficult to understand. Slides were very cluttered and hard to interpret. Not too hard of a class to get an A in if you are a good test taker because the multiple choice questions can be very specific and confusing

One HELL of a class. The exams are tough, and will cover literally cover every single minute detail. Professor's powerpoint are very hard to follow and incomprehensible. The lab portion, which is worth 10% of the entire grade, is weighed so low compared to the exams, considering that we spend 2hours each week on the labs. If you really want to take this class and learn a thing or two about the subject, I recommend that you take it with a different professor. If this review did not prevent you from enrolling in the class nonetheless, may the luck be with you.
The TAs are super nice and helpful in the labs though.

While Prof. Coroniti is a nice guy who cares for his students, his classes are by no means easy.
Maybe it's the fact that I'm a North Campus major and Astronomy is as far as it can get, but Astro 3 with Coroniti was intense. I studied my butt off for the two midterms and a final and only managed a B+. This is not an easy GE.
It is very easy to fall asleep during Coroniti's lectures- his drowning voice and the dim atmosphere of the class sets the perfect mood.
The labs were worth only 10% of our total grades, yet took up a third of our class time. The TAs couldn't help you at all with your classes as the TAs and the lectures were seperate. I dont recommend this class to others, but I guess it is ultimately your choice to make.

I was advised to take Astro. 3 as an easy science lab GE, and it was, although it did not seem like it at first. First off, the class is an athlete class and there are plenty of frat guys so they set the curve, which is generously laid out as an average grade of a "B" by the professor. While he doesn't use powerpoint in his lectures, and instead uses old school slides, he is pretty funny and engaging to listen to. The labs are a totally separate issue, they are boring as hell, but really easy. There are two midterms and the Prof. gives you a comprehensive study guide that has everything you need to know for the test on them. There is no need to buy or read the textbook b/c he says that everything on the test is strictly from lecture. That being said, very few people attend lecture and most end up reading the book. The final I though was hard and comprehensive, but I ended up getting an A. If you go to all the lectures and give a half decent effort in reading the study guide and asking a few questions, this is an easy science GE.

coroniti obviously wants his students to do well, as evidenced by the fact that he puts questions on the final that basically everyone got right on the midterms (he said it himself!) if you're interested in astro, i would take the class. unfortunately for me, it just didn't click, so i had to take it pass/no pass. it's a pretty chill class though. my ta, eric perlmutter, was awesome, and made labs pretty sweet.

The final was the hardest thing i've ever experienced in my life. I got A's on both midterms and the final killed me. Just know EVERY SINGLE detail he puts on his study guide and understand how it all goes together and you will be okay. His final was absolutely comprehensive. If you understand everything perfectly you will be fine, I suppose... But I wasn't.

i must say that i certainly agree with the fact that this guy is one of the nicest people you will meet. i went to his office hours almost every week and he was more than eager to answer my questions. there were lots of times that he and i just talked about life and what it was like for him to be a student and what advice he had for me and my life. he is genuine and he doesn't expect perfection, yet his test are very difficult. they're all multiple choice and he puts 2 "really dumb" answer choices and then two really close answers on there. that's what makes it so difficult. it is almost like he knows your weakness of a certain subject and he hits you hard. his test are difficult, but he is willing to sit with you and help you. he does have the tendency to present his tests as if they are easy. they are not. just so you know, lecture is most important, don't rely on the book because he says it won't really help. but he Always pauses in each lecture to see if there are any questions, so if you don't understand you need to stop and ask. if you make an effort to go to his office hours you may say that his class is still difficult but you might also say he is one of nicest and most concerned professors you will ever meet. you have to weigh which quality is most important to you as a student.

He was great for Astro 3. Very excited and interesting in lecture. I never fell asleep. He uses lots of slides to keep the class interesting and teaches the class very straightforwardly. You can tell he really cares about the subject matter and his students. I really enjoyed Astro 3 because of him.
