Not a so-called "easy" GE imo. Tests are essay questions mostly, and there is 1 homework assignment (about 1 page written about an article) every week, so you should really plan on attending lecture and paying attention if you want to do well. Boj Lopez is very very serious in my opinion, and wasn't the most approachable. Luckily the TA's are amazing and discussion sections are helpful and IMO very necessary in understanding it all.
I got an A becuase I tried and studied but you could also easily pass it if you just pay attention lol. Mostly reviews basic history topics but the content is genuinely so interesting if you care to learn more about our history just outside the US.
this class was an easy A, like the other review on here said, hw consisted of (i think) 500 word reflections based on the readings (readings were pretty long at first but get shorter over the quarter), midterm felt like an ap exam, we had to write a timed essay which were based off of any of the prompts she assigned. the final was just an annotated bibliography based off of the topic you choose for yourself, no essay/paper needed, just the bibliography & annotations. she was super sweet and made the class very engaging. if you took an ethnic studies class in high school, it shouldn't be hard at all. I would definitely recommend! ALSO, the class is only about Central America, she never talked about Chicanos.
i took this class completely online so i'm not sure how different it would be now, I also took it about a year ago so I kind of forgot most of it but since there's no reviews I thought this might be slightly helpful.
we had small 1-2 page reflections every week based on the readings, which were graded on completion. then, we had three longer papers (4-5 pages) in which we had to create an argument based off of the readings. in short, all you had to do was have a general understanding of the readings in order to do well in this class, since all the assignments were based on the readings. my ta omar was great, would 100% recommend taking him if you can. you'll do fine as long as you try your best. the material was pretty interesting.
