Professor Steen is an extremely nice guy but he is very scatter brained. He was rarely on time for class, rarely prepared and didnt give a good basis of what he expectations were of us or what we were supposed to be learning. He tried to keep the class interesting but it just never really worked. For a class about media that could be entertaining, he failed miserably. I wouldnt recommend taking him for this course unless you have to.

Comm 191C is a very interesting class. As mentioned countless times below, Steen is EXTREMELY disorganized and all over the place, but he does have concern for student learning and understanding. First piece of advice, choose a project topic OF INTEREST to you. Otherwise you will be bored out of your mind writing a lot.
You need to go to lecture, and you HAVE TO DO THE READINGS (the midterm and final are short-answer, essay-type questions revolving SOLELY around the reader articles and textbook.
If you can withstand Sten's scatter-brain approach, the class "Decoding Media Strategies" actually has some value and is very interesting material (even in the reader).
