Fall 2025 - This class was incredible and I highly recommend taking courses with this professor. He mentioned changing the structure of the class each quarter but with that in mind I would say this professor does not shy away from group projects. The grading was mainly based upon the TA's discretion when it came to weekly readings on Perusall, graphic organizers, and reflections. There are weekly readings followed by online quizzes and required annotations. Doing the annotations were especially helpful for the research paper we spent the quarter working on. The class felt incredibly manageable as the professor structured the class around giving us check points to ensure you did not procrastinate to start writing until the Final due date. This is a beginners writing course so if you have previous experience in english and writing classes where you performed fairly well, you will not have any problem. The TAs go over writing mechanisms and everything you need to know structure wise so for those without experience have all the tools. I learned so much from this professor and can't recommend disability studies courses more!

Winter 2025 - Hands down the best class I've taken at UCLA. Ariel is the coolest professor and cares so much about student learning. I also have a big interest in sports which definitely helped too. Ariel did such a great job in hitting both Gender and Disability Studies in the realm of sports. The syllabus can be overwhelming initially because there are assignments due pretty much every class but they are super chill. There are four movies to watch throughout the quarter and you write a short reflection about them. Final grades revolve around the individual project completed throughout the quarter. You observe the ways gender and disability act within sports on campus and put together a final project about your observations. You discuss your findings with a partner for a weekly reflection and find 10 academic sources to assist you. It is so chill and I would highly highly recommend this class. It is the best!

Spring 2023 - Professor Ariel was a super organized on canvas but helpful during class. The class was fun to engage in the daily conversations and the material for this class was interesting concerning the intersections of athletic competition and disability. We had several group projects and group discussions concerning a range of sources including readings, film, TV, and biographical writings, addressing sports, the body and disability generally. This class was fun and taken for my Gender Studies major. I am happy I took this course. NO EXAMS NO ESSAYS DAILY CANVAS DISCUSSIONS.
