I was stunned by Dr. Wudl. At first, I assumed it was a hard class and I just needed to study more...so I did until I was spending hours each day studying only to watch my quiz scores go lower and lower. His lectures are confusing and useless in terms of conceptual knowledge, they are only useful if memorized as many quiz questions come from examples he offers during lecture.

Frankly, you'd do better reading the text although even then don't expect to do well on his (uncurved) exams. I should point out he ended up adding lots of points to everyone's grade at the end to keep from failing 60% of the class.

Dr. Wudl does not belong in an undergraduate classroom and I would *highly* suggest avoiding his courses. Even my TA's for this class and the lab said as much.

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! I am serious, I should have listened to others who have taken his class and I still regret why I didn't. If you think you have had your worst course with a professor, wait till you take Wudl's class. He needs to seek professional help, cause he seriously doesn't care about his students, whether they learn or not, or anything else. He is the worst, CANNOT BE WORSE THAN HE IS.

All I want to say is that half the time he had other professors teach his class. He would lecture on the pleasent scent of alcohol and test on alcohol reactions. If you take his class you're better off missing lecture and just teaching yourself from the book, class was a waste of time. But test material I must say was fair.

Prof. Wudl may be a brilliant man, but he's a HORRIBLE professor. Chem 30B w/him was the hardest class I have ever taken. I STRONGLY recommend no one take him. The class material in general is pretty difficult to master, & he does NOT make it any easier to learn. Every quiz & test you take bring you closer & closer to that F...you see your pts dropping. He does not curve the course; it's all on an absolute scale. It also didn't help that the TA's were arrogant & truly did not care about teaching the students. They were just as bad as he was. No review sessions, not there during office hrs, & generally no good. If you want any chance of getting an A in this class, you must do ALL the probs (including the ones not assigned), do ALL the probs from any other 30B course you can get, form study grps, go to tutorials, go to office hrs, get outside help, make flashcards, read & study ahead everyday, basically eat, dream, think, talk, & study chem ONLY!!~ sadly, that is what I had to do. oK...enjoY!

Dr Wudl cares so much about the way the students learn but I think that in lecture he goes really slow and only covers the easy stuff so we get really lost when we do homework and go to discussion. So try to go to tutoring because 50 min a week is not enough to learn the material. His midterm was easy if you had Dr. Hardinger all you need to do is know reagents and how to push electrons but it seems really hard sometimes since Dr. Wudl only covers really easy stuff and he does not go into solving retrosynthesis and does not spend time reviewing information at the begining of class. Also he goes out of town so sometimes he is not in class but I lik Dr. Rubn and Dr. Garcia Garibay. One thing he lies about his grading scale the lowest grade you can get from him is a B-. Good Luck and don't believe him if he says you will never understand it he just likes to joke so you will work harder.
