Park is a really good professor. I had him for two quarters and I'd definitely recommend you take him. His class is pretty straightforward, as long as you study the practice midterms. If you don't do well, he's very helpful in office hours too. He definitely wants his students to do well, and he'll do a lot to make sure you get the grade you deserve.

Everything you read below about Park is true. The most important thing you need to know is that if you think you're on the borderline between two grades, you can almost guarantee that Park will give you the higher grade. (I thought I was on the verge of getting a B+ and Park ended up giving me an A+ due to his generous curve). Park is a fantastic lecturer with a great sense of humor that really lightens up the dreariness that sometimes accompanies a math course. His midterms and final are very fair, and he has a policy where he will drop your lowest midterm grade. The way that works is if you do better on your final than one of the midterms, then your final exam grade will count as both the final exam grade and the midterm grade and your midterm won't count at all. That really helps your grade. His tests are very much like the practice exams so if you understand those, the exams should be quite easy to do well on. He has graded homeworks, of which he drops the lowest score for one assignment. The one thing to keep in mind is that Park curves TOO generously for exams. Seriously. You will probably end up scoring much better on an exam than you think you did. I thought I got a B on the final but ended up getting a solid A on it because he curves so well, despite the fact that I totally botched one out of the seven problems on the exam. Funny, great lecturer, really cares about student learning, Park's the whole package. Take him if possible.

I would definitely recommend Park to anyone. His lectures really facilitate note-taking. Park really cares that his students learn the material. His tests are fair and people do well not because their necessarily easy, but because students learn the material well.

Park is an awesome professor. He's got a very clear and methodical lecturing style and he really wants to make sure that you learn the material. Despite his busy schedule (he once told us he works 80+ hours/week), he still takes the time to schedule review sessions before every exam and always posts practice tests online.

He's hilarious, too, always making jokes - especially about how good his graphs look. You'll know when he's joking because of his signature smirk. Every lecture with him is an experience because he's just so damn cool - he's in his late 20s and is always really well-dressed. He's great - don't hesitate if you get the chance to take his class.

Park was an amazing professor; his lectures were well planned, his review sessions and practice tests were helpful, and he was always helpful outside of class as well. I am a north campus major(and certainly not call myself good at math) and was so well prepared that I was able to easily get an "A" in this class.

This is the second 30 series math class I've had with him. I'd say he's one of the best math lecturers I've had. He's very intelligent but know hows to communicate everything in a way that is understandable. Unlike a lot of teachers who teach you things way beyond the scope of the class, he keeps it simple and usable. Everything is slimmed down to the must understandable and effective level. If you have a chance to take Park go for it. You will actually learn the material and be tested fairly.

Let's start off like this: I had and liked Norberg, Corbin, Kucherenko, and Hainline (astro TA); if you liked any of them, we have similar affinities to great teachers. Park is definitely up there. Great lecturer, well-organized, a bit OCD with the 3D pix (but that can be a nice breather). Have fun in 32A, cuz I heard 32B is a total b____ here in UCLA (hence why I took Math11 at SMC). However, if you have good reason to take 32B here, you better have Park, Accept No Substitutes.

Also, I had Laura Smith as TA, quite awesome, had a crush on her, too pansy to act on it; BUT YOU CAN CHANGE THAT.

Probably the best math professor there is at UCLA, his teaching style is reminiscent of high school teachers - spoon-feeding, which is great because you will understand everything if you go to class. Even if you don't get the stuff there, just copy down the extremely-comprehensive notes anyway and read it over again when you get back and you'll understand it perfectly. College would be a breeze if everyone taught like him.

"...enough to make you stop listening to the album, if not the entire genre."

I just finished reading Maddox's "Alphabet of Manliness" again and I head to check for my math grade. It's been nearly week since our final and the grade isn't up yet. I'm not complaining; instead, I'm actually glad. The longer it takes for my grade to come back, the higher the chance it's going to be graded more generously. This professor forces our TAs to repeatedly generously regrade our tests until the results look decent. To him, the satisfaction of his students, us, comes first.

Gentlemen and ladies, may I present you Doctor Frederick E. Park. We share a common goal when we surf the depths of bruinwalk.com: to find the easiest, most efficient and most approachable professors. Dr. Park is one of them. He teaches directly out of the book and occasionally adds some supplementary information to the topics. Still in his 20s at the time this review is written, according to another post below, he is very easy to talk to. During lectures, he speaks in two languages: non-Asian-accented English and Sarcasm. You'll find him quite entertaining and enjoyable, as his classes are not dry (does that mean they're wet?).

I sat through the quarter without taking a single note and I expect a good mark in the class. As said before, he teaches directly out of the book. Jotting down what he writes on the board will only facilitate your learning. Expect to be amazed by his utmost beautiful drawings and depictions of graphs and equations; the school should send them in to the museum.

Dr. Park offers two grading schemes, like a few other professors. Of the two schemes, he automatically takes the higher calculated overall grade at the end of the quarter.
1. Homework - 10%, Midterm 1 - 25%, Midterm 2 - 25%, Final - 40%
2. Homework - 10%, Midterm 1/2 (whichever is higher) - 25%, Final - 65%

There are a total of 10 homework assignments in the quarter and the lowest two homework grades are dropped. Your grade is unaffected by the class, meaning there's no curve.

His tests are very straightforward. If you study homework questions and example problems at the beginning of each section, you could very well end up with an A. Again, his priority is the students' satisfaction. Professors tend to balance the difficulty of tests (making one hard after an easy one, and vice-versa), but Dr. Park makes each test simple and direct.

There are only two reasons why you shouldn't take Dr. Park.
1. If "you're a glutton for punishment" (Corbin). Or as I would put it, "academic masochist". Dr. Park's tests didn't have any proofs and there weren't any problems on the tests that caused me to brainfart. Take another professor if you want harder questions. I'm not complaining.
2. If you're a scammer. Dr. Park will diagnose you as one if you walk into lectures with a clipboard and ask students to provide contact info on it. Unless you're part of his selected list of tutor groups, Dr. Park does not advocate that; he'll banish you to the Shado-- er, he'll banish you to jail.

Otherwise, take Dr. Park. He'll look after you.

Park's class was honestly the best college class I have taken here at UCLA. His lecture style is straightforward: he will explain a concept, give you the definition of the tool used to solve, prove how the tool works, and walk you through various examples, complete with meticulously drawn diagrams and pictures. His review sessions were amazingly comprehensive, they covered all the material that appeared on the midterms and final. His grading scheme benefits the student as he will drop one of your midterms if you screw up. His attitude is really laid back. He makes sure you understand the material and adapts his lecture if the class is "not happy". Really, he provides you with everything you need to do well. He connects well with the students, and understands their needs. Great guy.
